I have a 92 chevy truck 4x4 5sp. Im building it for sled pulling.

Its a 85 6.2 out of a chevy van.

The motor has main bearing girdle homemade with angle iron, dished pistons, chambered heads, turbo precups , z28 sbc valve springs no rotators, head studs ,tried felpro 6.5- 10 over headgaskets they blew @ 60 psi boost, with stock bolts ,tried cometics and with studs constantly seeping, curently running victor rienz stock 6.2.

The turbo is wh1c holset 12cm welded waste gate. Im try to build power with high boost low compression and over fueling .

Ive tried lots of pump mods ,even 1/2 plungers wich worked fine for half way around the block, then snapped the cam pin. Currently the pump cam is locked solid.

Ive gotten enuff fuel from .310 plungers for 50 psi boost a turned up pump gives about 35 psi boost.

The 60 psi was with my big pump.Tonight i finely got running again with my new victor rienz head gaskets.

Ive only gotten 45 psi boost .IT does not run very well.

It wont start hot without cold water on the pump head .

My big pump is pretty much to loose, also the plungers seized one time so they are also loose. The head and rotor siezed one time also and i managed to cut them apart so head and rotor are not matched.

I can get a 4 plunger head and rotor from the central penn pump co. for less than $400 . So far im not very impressed with my combination . It ran best with the big plunger pump when it was new and marine injector tips .

I could pull out in 2nd gear and spin the whole way through when the turbo lit . Currently running 6.5 turbo nozzles that i modified .

Tonight it was cutting out a higher rpms. Not shore if its just the injector pump, my timing might be to far retarted.

It is hard to set when your cam ring is locked.

Also i dont think the wh1c is the right turbo for this combo ,the exhaust wheel is pretty restrictive , on a free rev it will boost 30 psi.

If any body thinks a 6.2 can really run im willing to try anything as long as it dont cost to much.

You know, I find that angle iron isn't strong enough for a main girdle, I usually try to use fence posts. They are cheaper and stiffer than wimpy angle iron. :D

You may want to wear armour inside the cab, because I think you are going to blow that baby apart! Got any video?

You're hot start problem is probably due to pump wear. Its pretty common on high mileage db2 pumps and would seem to be the logical problem with your truck due to mods and usage.

main girdle

I will use a fence post next time. This is mostly an experimental motor, I got it for free, of course it didnt stay that way. Yes the pump must come back off.

any pic's of the stud girdle? Any head porting/what kind of valve work, any pocket bowl blending, for flow?

think he was kidding about the fence post. you see we are use to 15 psi for boost and high 20's for 18:1 comp ratio motors. seeing 60 psi boost in a 6.5 is not very common. that is why were extremely interested,

Was the block a 7.8L until a few cylinders broke off?

You sure your boost gauge is working correctly? Thems gaskets are only made to hold maybe 25psi.

Needs more fuel

The heads are bowl ported and the area between the valves ground down flush with the valve seats ,better flow but bad for cracking they might have cracked between the valves any how? When I got 60 psi boost was when my pump with .500 thousands plungers was still ok . The head gaskets blew promptly. The cometics held but leaked compression into the water. Cometic might work better with more than 3 layers. The victor rienz solicor for the 6.2 detroit and 5.7 olds have a solid steel core . If anybody knows of a solid core 6.5 head gasket please let me know . The 6.5 fel pro and victor rienze are perforated core with graphite. I forgot, my first set of head gaskets where victor rienz 6.5- 10 over .Over fueling = lots of boost epecialy with with wh1c wich has an 8 blade compressor, not the greatest for high flow. I drove it a little tonight, it deffinetly needs more fuel especialy at higher rpms about 3000. The four plunger head and rotor is tempting, not shure about spending that much. Once i get the fuel problem fixed im looking at changing the turbo I have a pro 52 but its kinda big. Im curious about the A team turbo , do you have any inducer exducer sizes on turbine and compressor wheel and exhaust housing a/r. The plan now is more fuel and may be wastegate the turbo. I really need some kind of timing light or adapter . I can borrow one that clamps on the line. I will try to get some pics and video on here , once i get a card reader for my pc.

Your 6.2 turbo sounds like it's a beast.

As you know, reliable fueling always bites the 6.2-6.5 performance guys in the keester. Every time.

So yeah, I want to see some photos of an IP torn down and hotrodded...

Do it, doitnow. :D

I talked to the shop that builds penninsulars pumps about the 4 plunger head and rotor. He gave me some ideas. Columbus diesel builds tractor pumps with 1/2 inch plugers. I took a used pump rotor to a machine shop and they edm 1/2 inch holes and plungers to match, the plungers seized pretty quickly, getting the plunger to fill @higher rpms is a problem Lots of charge pressure helps ,to much and your pump will seize. Im currently testing a new idea ,but i cant tell if it helps cause my head and rotor fit loose. maybe i will get a 14 mm pump built.

I did some pump work and test drove today, and seized the turbo.Tonight I installed the pro 52 , it boosted 50 psi about 4 times and split the turbo boot, its pretty lagy ,but when it starts spooling it will spool all the way very quicky. I need to redo the down pipe and a better boost hose. The truck deffinetly runs better. The timing is still not right either. I bought a card reader on ebay so hopefully I can get some pics and video posted soon.

Hey 6.2 turbo, very interesting read on your 6.2 and you have got to have about one of the most modified 6.2 or 6.5 engines around. Where are you located in PA and you plan on pulling at the Buck in Quarryville, PA? That's cool that you want to build the truck for sled pulling as I have to really say there isn't enough people out there trying to build the 6.2 and 6.5 trucks to pull with. You don't even see that many Youtube videos for 6.5 turbo trucks pulling for that matter. When you were talking about Peninsular's 4 plunger pump on the last page do you know what size plungers they run in the marine pumps? I wouldn't mind checking your 92 out some time if you aren't too far away. Or even giving you a hand one weekend as I've been into diesels since I was 16 and it's all I own/drive til this day. Looking forward to your pictures and videos too!

The 4 pluger are .310 just like regular 6.5 but 4 instead of 2,peninsular also builds a 2 plunger .350 I ran a .370 rotor out of a john deere that worked good but it seized one time after I adjusted the timing. I had it at lebanon fairgrounds, it just spun it was over 2000lbs to light. I have to be pretty happy with it before I haul it to the Buck,we live in myerstown. Most people think very little of 6.2 ,6.5 diesels and say it cant be done.
