Been away for a while this winter, but not too far :D

Started building an engine for DaHoooley, but ran out of interest with the cold weather and all.

Little work for the big rig so no $$$ to do much.

Sold off almost all the projects (Blazer and such) and have enough $$$ now to go at the DaHoooley the right way.

Yesterday I stumbled onto a BRAND NEW Chevy 6.5 Block, still in the factory bag for $550.

Going to try and get it home in the next couple days.

Will order a set of heads from Clearwater and then rock and roll.

Keep ya up to date as time goes by.

No optimiser but its a fresh GM block.

Last of the ones GM sold out of the pipeline when they cleared out the parts system.

It's a 506 Squirt block with small outer center main bolts.

An optimiser would be sweet, but not that lucky.

I looked at getting a new aftermarket block from Clearwater, but they are $1200 PLUS freight from Florida so probably $1600 by the time I got it here.

The heads are $670 to the door, so thats fine.

Just a tad over $1200 for the Block and heads.

My crank and bearings are fine from the previous build so good to go

Starts getting depressing when you walk past an unfinished project daily. Hope all goes well this time, I always enjoy your builds.

Sounds like a good plan. Hope all goes well.
Were the last of the GM blocks cast by navistar? or was that after GEP took over the 6.5s?:???:

I've got a blueprinted 6.5 engine built 2 years ago I've got to now tear apart stored in my 6x12 trailer to make sure rust from high humidity hasn't gotten to it before I install it later this summer. I had not planned on storing it this long so I did not coat it in cosmoline though it was liberally coated with STP before putting it away & wrapping in plastic, it will probably be okay as is, but I gotta know for sure.

GEP took over totally in 2000

The info that I have been able to scrounge up says that after date code C-159 (March 15 1999) that the blocks had been updated to eleviate the #8 cyl issue and by about May the risky GM Blocks had been fixed.

I need to check the date code on this new block to see what it is.

Just dont want to spend $$$$$$$$$$ on an older casting that could give up the ghost within a short time.

Hell I would rather use an aftermarket block than a Known bad GM Block.

Any Blocks cast in the 97 to 98 era are suspect.

Would be really lovely to be able to buy an optimizer 6500

Ahhhh well

so am i reading this right you sold the blazer project the one that you where completly redoing?

kind of off topic but i know someone will have the answer what dose a bare 6.5 block weigh? (NO heads or any thing just the block)

GREAT SCORE TODAY :agreed:
OOOOOOOOK, now that I have Y'all's attention.

Went to look at the "Chunk" of cast iron today.

The dude drags out about 5 tons of iron to get at the little beast waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the corner.

SOOOOOOOOOO out comes this very obvious 6.5 block. :D

I tip the block down to get a look at the date code and as I tip it over, I immediately see the "VAVISTAR" diamond in the valley.

Further looking reveals all the late mods to the main webs and other places on the block.

The block also has the pad in the valley for the rear turbo (not drilled)

The bores need to be finished and at present are about .100" small.

This block was cast on "JUNE 10th 2002" in the navistar foundary.

This was one of 20 blocks that had been purchased through the GM parts source in late 2002/early 2003

This is, from what I can find out the same blocks that are used in the optimizers engines.

I had to stop off at the STEALER and order the squirters, the oil filter bypass and the cooler bypass parts.

All that little crap is on the way now.

The block is over at the little machine shop I use and he is going to do the bores and fit a set of STD pistons I have.

$550 on the block, WHAT A DEAL. :D:D:agreed::D:D

SOOOOOOO the next stop is to get a SCAT crank for this beast.

Looks like DaHooooley is going to get a really good engine this time through.

keep Y'all posted as it comes together further.

6.5 weighs about 350 empty

Missy isn very happy with this score.

A scat crank and some clearwater heads and off to the rodeo with the Old DaHooooley
