Bigdaddy, as fun as it looks dropping a h1 in the water/mud halfway up the windshield, it is not that much fun- it is WAY MORE! Buy a beater 4wd, drop in a 6.2/6.5 w/ db2. Waterproof starter and alt and burry that sucker- too much fun especially as close as you are to there. The low operating costs of these set ups is what makes it so good cause you can really get after it and not sweat repair or fuel costs. The low rpm torque is perfect for the water fording.

Now you're talkin my language! I used to have some 33's on my truck, it was just about unstoppable (except one time... I hit some skidder ruts that were disguised by water... passenger side of the cab's floorboard filled up with water lol) 4low would pull the Empire State Building off its foundation lol
How do they keep water from getting in the cab of the h1?
 
Park it in the desert. Ha - I kill me!

The doors up to about 1" below my windows in water and inside stays dry. There are 4 drain plugs 1 by each seat. Best traction is to let it fill up and go. Power window motors have not been affected yet. Power locks in mine are goofy probably from swimming when water was half way up the windshield with all windows down and me getting ready to take a deep breath...

I don't have the Tcm, drac, in original local- hummer will get to wet there going that deep along with radio AC controls and cigarette lighter. My truck - no cigarette lighter, radio out currently and will be installed into roof structure, along with entire AC system.

Hmmwv's have none to worry about except Tcm and drac which are waterproofed.
 
I have been asking over a the Hummer forum these same questions LOL. I can't find anyone running the pump. I did talk to Joe at Heath briefly yesterday and expressed my interest in purchasing at least some of the goodies in the kit, specificaly the Merlin and they appeared willing to take money!!. Tech info on the pump,, well i tried to ask a couple questions and didn't get too far. He did say it was not put on a Hummer yet from his knowledge. Also most important he said they have the pumps manufactured so by that i get they are not modified 5068's as i was thinking.
I guess the best way to find out is to buy one!!

Awesome! I've got a few more mods to do to mine before I get it. (and i gotta sweet talk my ol lady into believing my truck needs this stuff lmao) I want a QSV, water/meth, few other little things.
Just looking around on Heath's site again, seems he's added a stage 4 Towing kit, WITH AN W2A INTERCOOLER! I would really dig that, my truck has been gaining atleast 20hp since the nights have been cooling off and i'm not running a hood at the moment. (looks super redneck but i don't care, feels like i'm driving a muscle car lol). I would love to see those gains on a daily basis and i'm not too big of a fan of the A2A cooler mount location. Would a W2A intercooler cause the same kind of "lag" with the ATT as the A2A? I know most uninstall the A2A after they install the ATT. If yes, this "lag" would be almost eliminated with the QSV right?
Also, Heath added a P38 turbo.

Honestly I really don't care if I blow the bottom end out of this engine, a hummer take-out is just a phone call away, and cheap as hell at that.
This is in "S" vin engine, as far as I can tell, it's the original one. The heads were replaced with brand new ones @ ~120k (before i bought it, thank God for the PO having some sense, and keeping a maintenance record, I wouldn't know what I have otherwise.)
I've heard so many horror stories, blah blah blah, but the point is I have ~270k on an "s" and I run the dog shit out of it every single day. Don't even get me started on the hell i have brought into this truck's life lol I have literally been just waiting for the whole thing to go kaboom. But it hasn't. I have no blow-by, oil pressure's great, she's like the energizer bunny on crack cocaine lol. I'm just pushing the limits of this GM casting, just like I push all my vehicles. You don't really know what you got until you do. Ask my wife what she thought of me pushing our 4.6 N* STS one word "terrified" lol
Plus it helps to know that just about everything i've paid for on this engine can be salvaged and installed on another.
I don't tow, this is just a vehicle that I feel like i've took from an absolute lemon (the first time i drove it, it was such a dog. Crossing the Mississippi river from vidalia, la to natchez, ms 55-60 mph is all i got and i had it floored, doin 35 when i started on the bridge. DOG) now 2k later it's something that is very fun to drive, unstoppable in 4wd, and I have alot of fun shittin on guys who drive 350's who think they got something cause they have a cold air intake and a freakin throttle body spacer.
I'm as proud as they get of my 6.5, but i'm just power hungry, and too cheap to get a loan for a duramax :hihi:

This is running the dog shit out of a 6.5/6.2 Extreme high ambient air temps mountain grades 10% or more for miles, 7800' elevation and a fully loaded/overloaded trailer. Throw in some 'big' wildlife for color. All part of a complete scrap metal breakfast. :hihi: Even the Dodge Cummins trucks were crying 'mommy' on this route with high parts costs and wind/wildlife insurance claims.

GW did point out the Moose pumps before and I ran across them and have a standard 6.2 rebuilt IP from them. (Damn small pump for my 1993, but runs clean enough to honestly fail emissions on #2. It will pass on B99.) I would get another pump from them anytime. Shortcut to their site:

I lucked across a 06 lly/lbz sclb 4x4, grandpa driven, 183k hwy miles. This guy that owned it worked in Oklahoma for 20+ years and recently passed away. 6 months later his wife did too and they owed 9000 on it so that's what I payed for it. It's in great shape. Needs 4 glow plugs and that's all. I also picked up a bd powerpup from a friend so I've been playin around with it. It's incredible the difference in a 6.5 and a duramax. This thing is a hoss. How is it even legal to own a truck this powerful stock? It's made to work that's for sure.
I'll prolly be postin over on the duramax forums now. It was nice knowin u guys lol

Lol you're probably right but when I do drop that much cash I'll probably go ahead and get some 40% overs and a bigger turbo so it won't hurt my feelins too terribly bad. It makes me feel like I'm runnin kerosene or somethin I can't believe I'm burning the same fuel as I was in the 6.5 lol I do know one thing, performance mode will blow gallons out of the tailpipe in a hurry but my god is it fun. I'm gone to get 2 400 barrel saltwater tanks with a 30' gooseneck, trailer and all prolly be about 15k I bet she don't even break a sweat
 
Look guys, I don't wanna start a big contentious argument, but my question is.... Why do you still continue to think in the past?

I am looking at .31 pumps putting out 110-120cc's slipping to 99cc's at 4000RPM... That is just my 2 plunger pumps (WITH leaf spings btw).... The 4 plunger pumps, while being rarer, are doing amazing compared to where we started... My last calibration was 190peak/165@3k on my DB4 that bit the bullet due to thrust issues from the helical gear. I have since fixed that issue, and im looking to do this next DB4 to close to 200cc's all the way to 4K rpm. My 6.9 Im building right now is being setup to do between 400 and 500 at the wheels, Reliably...

We have already pushed the DB pump further than the OP is posting about, with proof.

Physically pump for pump, You are correct. However, the hydraulic heads and internal parts are all interchangeable, so the calibrations and fancy parts can be done in a GM pump as well.
 
Didn't this thread take an interesting turn... What do you have to do to the 6.9 or 7.3 idi to make them withstand 4-500hp? These are all mechanical pumps you are speaking of right? Just DB's no DS's right?
 
I am confident an IDI could withstand those numbers with very little modification but I am building my 6.9 to take whatever I can throw at it. The details are in my thread on FTE, but the breakdown is as following:

-86 6.9 block Bored .040, Decked
-Screw in freeze plugs
- 93/94 IDIT rods
-Balanced Rotating assembly
-Mahle Pistons shaved .050 tri-coated
-Total Seal 2nd rings
-Girdled and Studded (Main and Head)
-Stage 1 cam
-Comp 910's shimmed
-Smith Bro's Pushrods
-Ported heads and Valve job, deshrouded valves, focused on low lift numbers
-7.3 Pre-cups in the 6.9 Heads (Smaller chamber, bigger throat)
-Custom RD4 pump, Locked Timing, 20psi inlet pressure, ~200cc fully fueled
- Stroked Pintle, 2500 pop G-code injectors
-Bullseye Power Batmowheel S259

That's going in place of my IDIT.

We never had anything like the DS4, they went powerstroke instead of going DS4 on the IDI. As far as the pumps go, my stuff is just standard .31" 2 plunger stuff and 4 plunger stuff as well.
 
4l80e will need to be "hardened". I know quite a few guys who run those in monster drag cars. has to be cheaper than a suncoast on a cummins though. Im calling merlin tomorrow and getting my name on that list.

How much and what kind of MPG numbers if your not WOTTING it everywhere?

What forum are you on? Wouldn't mind poking around and learning something. :cool:

I have wondered this myself. As for #'s the ford pumps always had bigger cc's and such. Not sure why GM would not want this stuff. 6.9 and 7.3 is not that mush bigger than our 6.5s. And honestly there is really not that much difference between them.
