OK, let's start posting here :D and bring this place to life

I have posted on DP concerning this problem, still pending.

Here is the history : my father in law trucks was revving, up & down from close to shut down up to average 1800 rpms then down again and up, and so and so...
Then finally she quits and never restart. The starter spins strong but nothing.

We found that the remote PMD (in bumper) has melted partially. I don't know for sure wether, the PMD causes the short (defect on PCB maybe) or if it has been the victim of a short somewhere in the harness.

We changed the PMD (tested 100% functional on my own truck), connected it on the extension, on the stock harness, still nothing.

We notice we get plenty of fuel at the bleeder T-valve, the fuel shut off solenoid is cliking (we put a new one to get sure), no blown fuse.

No fuel is coming at the injectors.

Using AutoEnginuity scanner, I found following codes, just before she quits :
C0472 steering position and rate of change sensor circuit #1 low;
P0126 insufficient coolant temperature for stable operation (he has taken out the T-stats as the one of the headgaskets is blown);
P0219 Engine over speed condition ( module : fuel/air metering)
P0236 turbocharger boost sensor A circuit range/performance;
P1216 fuel solenoid response time too short

I bet this is an electrical issue, but did not find it yet. We should soon try to hook a TechII scanner to see if we can see something...

Do you think that problem sits around the IP? Electrical one or something worse?

Your fuse may be good but is it making a good connection? Clean up the spade terminals on the fuel sol. fuse and the one for the ECM. I had a no start condition, had a thread on it. Cleaning those fuses cured it. Worth a try. Leo

Hey Mat,

I'm in Borneo, so not on much either site, be here until 19th so manuals/schematics are at home I was hoping somebody would have been able to get you going by now.

Definately electrical, with key on do you have 12 to shutdown solenoid, revving engine before fail is also common sign broken fuel sol armature, maybe high current on it trying to move broken armature, PM Diesel Pro to see if he can shed some light on it.

Remove the extension and try it. Make sure the ground is connected.

Other than that, my guess is shorted solenoid in the IP. You should back probe the connector with a meter and see what you have

Hey TD,
glad to hear from you.
Sorry for late replies. Having days off, wife suggested that instead of facing my computer or digging under the hood of a 6.5, it should be nice if I could finish the terrace I started to built.
What wife says...):h
I think too electrical. I will try to test the harness and pull out the intake to check around the IP, at the best, just a short in harness, at the worse, IP. Hope to find out anyways...

Clear those codes and try again...what codes pop up now?

only C0472 came back

Check the connections and IP.
Will do, as soon as the terrace is finished ;)

Done, we put the PMD on the stock harness only. No start

I think the solenoid is shorted.
I put a tester to the red wire of the harness, the one wich goes to back of pump to the poppet valve solenoid, and I didn' measure any resistance :0.00 ohms showed the tester !! straight to ground!

I have a used pump I bought for spare. I will measure the solenoid to see if it's OK.
The old pump is a 5067, the actual a 5221. Should the solenoids interchange? Anything special to do , is it a plug and play interchange or is there something special I must care about?

I know this doesn't have anything to do with th melted PMD but I thought I remembered some telling me once that the optical sensor for the oil pressure sending unit could cause a no start condition. Would/could this be a possibility and would it give you a code if it was acting up?
Just throwing out a newbie longshot thought.

Changing the fuel sol is a critical procedure IIRC. I believe it has to be shimmed. might be time for a pump or atleats pull it and have it bench tested.
