Louder engine ??

With high pop pressures it is normal, part of the diesel clatter, and your idle timing with tuned chips is usually a little higher. With pop pressures around 800psi its nice and quiet, but ultimately shitty.

Yes.. better combustion because of the new injectors.
 
Have you driven it or did oyu just put the nozzles in ? It takes a good half hour of driving to get all the air out and the truck runnin smooth again. Check all the lines at the nozzles. One could be slighty leaking/loose and truck will run smooth but be louder than normal. I had that happen once.

Its odd that some of us have zero air issues, and others hear such horrible noises they think their engine is compromised... I wonder why.
 
Im setting up my pop pressure pretty high, so I'll let you know in a couple weeks how it affects my engine noise, which is already fairly loud. Seemed like every time I put something more free flowing on the intake or exhaust the engine got louder. So it adds up. Some people equate diesel clatter with a good running powerful engine.
 
It runs great and no air issues that I know of. I did one side and started it and ran it for 5 min. than did the other side. I didn't have to take the inner wheel off on the pass. side either., just the heat shield on the exh. man. and also changed the heater hose with new one and a bung. Good bye quick disconnect. I've put 150 miles on it since new inj. were installed and I had them popped at 2250.Just noticed that it was louder now and being my first 6.5 was wondering if it's normal. Thanks for reassuring me, that all is well.
 
I've decided to set my marine injectors to 2350psi, should be interesting! Then I might have another set rebuilt with standard nozzles around 2150 to compare the difference.

Master GMCTD did a long explanation at the old site that I only partially understood. It was under a thread from me called "Help, I screwed this truck up bigtime". funny to reread it now.
 
Does the engine run better?

There is an effect on timing with new vs. old injectors. I ran into this with 6.2 low pop injectors changed out to higher pop 6.5 Turbo injectors. Had to advance the timing.

When you are at 45 MPH you should have some diesel clatter till you roll into the throttle and add heat to the prechambers: the diesel clatter should lessen up. This is when you know your timing is correct by ear with a DB2.

Some others comment that the new injectors clatter the engine for a while till they break in.
 
A loud diesel is a good diesel. From a trusted mechanic and dear friend, his experience leads him to believe that the noisier these 6.5L's are, the better motor it ends up being.
 
It runs like ten good men!!! And after new inj. louder. I like to think loud is good because it's louder now than when I bought it. Kinda like when cold started in the morn. but stays that way all the time now. maybe a little quieter after warmup.

Words to live by. That is how I have always done it.
 
when I changed my injectors it got quieter. Not much difference at idle, but driving down the road the diesel noise went away altogether. It was shocking, I felt like I was driving a gasser it got so quiet.
Of course, then I went and put the ATT on a few months later and it got noisy again.
At least my exhaust sounds the balls.
 
Someone said to load up on lube (SAE 30W) when new injectors are installed.....Helps with break in......I "think" it was Bill or Todd.

Maybe someone can expand on that a little....
