Looking for a performance DB2

The DB2's want the lower pressure Walbro FRB-5 as the timing is determined by housing pressure that changes from the DB2's rotary vane pump RPM, of course, the pressure relief is referenced on the inlet of the IP. In fact if you remove the fuel inlet pipe you can stick an Allen wrench into the adjustment screw on the housing pressure regulator. It's possible to peg the timing on a DB2 with too much lift pump pressure, let alone bring it on too soon.

As I understand it the DS4 is immune to high lift pump pressures.

Yep, the FRB-5 is the one on my list. My original plan was to do the Walbro and maybe a tank sock delete and then the Moose Pump. However the old IP had other ideas!

In other news sent the old IP back to Conestoga for core on Monday. They provided a pre paid shipping label so returning the IP was super easy. Got a check from them on Friday. Kudos for the quick turnaround on the core check!

I can't remember anyone having problems with Conestoga pumps. I kinda wonder about their injectors- never heard good or bad on them.

Update: got fuel today and she got 21.7! This is the best mileage I have gotten with a turbo 6.5, for a 3/4ton 4x4 I am surprised- I was thinking 19-20. Went 343 miles and put in 15.787 gals. Ran the pump until it clicked off and then ran until it clicked off for three more times like I always do to account for foaming of the fuel. Still super pleased with the pump. Starts great as well... it was 26 this morning and started great. Ran rough for about 5 seconds and then smoothed out.

21.7?!?! Wow, thats awesome, and with a hopped up IP! I bet your a happy camper. :agreed: I'm still enjoying all my new found power to much to be able to get any decent MPG's, but I'll calm down soon, and give it a try.

Matt

Not bad at all. I'm ready to get mine and see how it behaves on a #10k truck. I was down to 13mpg highway before I shut it down

Yes I am happy. :D It is has been a nice surpise!

Cool. Like finding a $20 in your pocket you didn't know was there.

Yeah my daily (a 2014 6.0 2500HD) gets around 15mpg. Makes me seriously consider going back to a 6.5 as my daily!

I think you will get better- if you can stay out of the throttle! :hihi:

All in all I am surprised and baffled. 6.5 lore is that the precups determine your mileage that is why the ol 6.2s did so well in an aerodynamic equivalent of a brick! Well I am running diamond cups with pocket ported heads. The IP is also upsized and I am running High Pop injectors. Those all point to inefficiency yet I have gotten lucky and hit an extremely efficient combo. It has been going up and I do not think I will hit 22mpg but who knows, never thought I would break 20! On a side note still need to get it timed- who knows if it will go up or down!

Thats about what I get if I keep it at 72 on the highway, and behave around town. Anything over 72 and the mpg falls off the cliff.

I have heard of folks getting what I am getting, I have just never experienced it. The best I have gotten before this was Gary, a NA 6.5 at about 21.5 if I remember correctly. My 95 1500 6.5 turbo got 20.5 once. It was always in the 19mpg range. The rest of the 6.5s I have owned and driven have been in the 17-18mpg range.

I got 18ish mpg bone stock. A tune and Att turbo got me better mileage when I behave with the skinny pedal. I wish I could have gotten better mileage with upgrades to my gasser jeep(went from 9 to 11 mpg). Its gonna get a 6.5 next. 11 mpg sucks.

I find it harder to control the right foot with an auto.... maybe that is why my mileage never went up with my other 6.5s! Yes I can feel your pain. When I made decision to return to gas I was getting 17-18 with a 6.5 so the MPG loss to 15-15.5 in gas truck would be ok with the difference in fuel prices. Throw in the diesel additive and more frequent oil changes and it swung from a wash to money saved with the gasser. Now that I am getting 20+ with T well it makes me wonder what I was thinking! There were other factors at the time such as a 6.5 named Larry and its weird electrical gremlins. We will see what the future holds... as time and money allow may try to build/ convert Little D to mechanical with a stick... with a 1/2 ton 2wd maybe 22-23 would be viable!

I don't have working cruise on the hummer,(still on the repair list) but in my other trucks it always a difference of 3 or so mpg with automatic transmission. Do any of you with the manual trans see a big difference with cruise control on the vs the old boot?

Can't say, I never calculated non cruise w/ manual.

Cruise is out on my 06lbz, gained .5 mpg. Not using cruise on my wifes 03 can gain up to 2mpg through hills (pretty much everywhere we go).

My 95 is about a wash.

Started out as rain and quickly changed to snow- the truck did great in the snow, ran the speed limit most of the time! Back to the subject at hand. Arrived at Conestoga Diesel around 11am- GPS told us to turn left when we should have turned right and they were out in Mennonite farming country- a whole lot of nothing. The folks at Conestoga were awesome- very friendly and accommodating- we had broken a wiper blade in the heavy snow and they even ran to the closest parts store for us to buy a replacement. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a quality reman pump.

The Bull Moose was 6^ retarded. Conestoga Diesel advanced the IP 6^ from where I brought her in and what a difference. WOW!!! More power and more off the line snap! Egts, Ects are lower. Oil pressure seems to a bit higher as well oddly enough. Definitely worth the trip. May even get some better mileage if I can keep my foot out of the throttle! I have been driving her a bit harder now that I have gotten used to the trans and the clutch. I am also feeling more sure of the mechanical state of the truck as the miles have racked up.

The puff limiter- here is how it works. They replace the top cover of the IP. Apparently there is an electric actuator/ motor that inhibits the governer until the boost is up. They recommend the limiter for trucks that are driven by multiple individuals who may not understand a diesel or the pyro and the for emissions. Sounds like a neat option if you do not want to roll coal at will. I kinda of enjoy a select targeted use of coal rolling to make a statement or for just pure fun- kind cool to leave a jacked up Cummins in the dust, er cloud of soot!

On another note I got 18.86 on the last tank of 476 miles. 24 miles was towing the 18' flatbed empty, 24 was towing the flatbed with 25 bales of hay, and 156 miles was towing the 5.5x9 utility trailer empty and with a cabinet. I also had a few hard, smokey runs down the backroads!

That is AWESOME! Glad you found even more power in there. Kind of like an early Christmas present! :D The Bull Moose pump has made the #1 position on my to do list for my truck, and I'll likely order after Christmas. I have 4 kids, so money will be a little tight until after Christmas. The folks at Conestoga sound like a real class act, and the type you can trust to do good work. I'm thinking a video of your truck rolling some coal may be in order. :)

I'm pretty stoked to get mine going by Christmas

Nothing like a Moose Pump stuffed in your stocking to make Christmas!

The folks at Conestoga have been great to work with, happy to answer questions and super nice in person. Spoke to them about the Moose line and they upped the fuel quite a bit over the old Conestoga pumps. Hope you find a moose pump in your stocking as well! I will see what I can do about a video!

Did they think the puff limiter would clear the manifold? (I am not opposed to changing the upper to something better in the future.)
