Long, slow build of my truck

Absolute ditto on the water wetter. It's one of the few things that I've had the opportunity to do a straight before and after test on. 10-15* change.
You were hitting those temps without towing anything? What was the ambient temps?
Those upgrades should make a big difference.

The diesel one withstands a high nitrate level in the coolant. Many diesel coolants run the high nitrates.

We dont really need higher nitrates since we dont have wet sleeve engines, but it doesnt hurt until your count is way high- then the solids drop out and become a muddy substance plugging passages and coating everything. Test strips are available for anyone worried or wondering.

You, my friend are "The Diesel One".

Just a quick preview of one change.. A new to me turbo. This is an H1C hybrid. Specs are 60/60/16 on a non-gated housing. Nice and tight, spins good. We stripped the old paint off and gave it some Detroit Alpine love. Hope to have it on in the next couple weeks.

Drive back to PA so we can street tune that new huffer!

You are a tad farther than I went :D

What boost levels are you expecting?

Hoping to be in the 15-20psi range tops. The non-gated ATT makes about 13psi max with my tune. HX35 with smaller 12cm exhaust housing, and wired shut WG made 20. I think this non-gated 16cm housing should fall in the middle.

Got the hybrid on a week and a half ago and have put over 1000 miles on it getting to know it. It is definitely a different animal than the A Team. Boost comes on more quickly, 5psi by 2000rpm and 10+ by 2500. If I stay in it long enough I can get 18-20psi on a shift. Smoke clears up quickly, little to no visible haze at WOT compared to a visible haze from the ATT. EGT's are a little cooler, really won't go over 1150 unless you push it hard. Otherwise, it is mostly 600-1000 driving around normally. Doing 72-75 on the highway, about 2200rpm or so, its 5psi, 750-800*.

Butt dyno tells me it pulls harder than the ATT does, however speedo says they are about the same. Which I find to be interesting. Spec-wise the hybrid is the more capable turbo on paper, but for some reason that darn ATT pulls just as hard. 0-60 time is still around 10-11sec. I don't think my trans is helping that very much, seems like the shifts are starting to get a little lazy. 205k on the original tranny, cant complain. I think that my tune didn't play very nice at WOT with the ATT. I could get 11-13psi out of it, but would still get a good haze at WOT. I am not sure if the tune is commanding more air than the ATT can supply, or if it was a timing thing or what. In any event, the tune (which was originally written when I had my HX35) works pretty well with the hybrid. I think the hybrid can DEFINITELY out perform the pump/tune combo, which means I have room to play with more fuel.

I took the truck to the Cape last week, and did an MPG test going up (like always). Last year, I got 23 with the 35, tune, intake, exhaust, yadda yadda. Same trip, same driving, same mods - except with the Raptor 100 - truck got 18.5. I notice the fuel pressure is down a bit, and I am thinking that since the hybrid moves more air than the 35 that the truck is using more fuel? Just a theory. In any event, it lost some highway MPG which kinda bummed me out. I will retest though, as 5mpg seems too significant to be true.

All in all, I am happy with it so far. I am interested to see how it responds to more fuel. I still have the FTB fittings to add, as well as my 1/2 fuel line setup, remote filters, etc etc.

As boost is increased so goes the fuel rate up, up and away........

That's all in the tune. Without seeing it you can't guarantee that's 100% true. In stock form, fuel isn't boost referenced well. Thus why you see smoke when a turbo control solenoid goes out, for example (until a DTC kicks in and de-fuels)

That is my suspicion as well. Pulling hard up grades with the RV and I have to look *very* closely to see anything. By looking closely I mean that I am in the passenger seat leaning into the passenger side mirror. Cannot see any from the driver's seat.

Out of curiosity, was the ATT tune (from Slim) ever used with the ATT?

Yes, I ran the Kojo tune for a period of time. Shifts were not as firm as the Heath tune, and tcc lockup came on a little early for my liking. Timing curve was slightly less aggressive. The Heath tune ran it pretty well but it gets along better with the HX.

Ok, good to know.

Not so sure the tranny behavior is really an issue of one tuner versus the other as both likely picked something they thought you would want based on the dialogue. For the next tune, consider reviewing these characteristics with the tuner so that you get what you want :)

I actually spent more time talking with Kojo than I did with Heath. I never even spoke to Bill, just one of the guys that worked there. Pretty much asked for the same thing: a hot tune for a street driven truck. As much juice as they could give it without blowing something up. Perhaps Kojo was a little more conservative? Not sure.

Are you tuned for the 3BAR? I forget but still see it in your signature. There's a few tables that could screw you up if not and i'm not sure who has/has not figured out how to correctly scale them because the software they are using isn't setup for it.

OBDI is dumber so people get away with the 3BAR sometimes on L65 based tunes.

I still have the 3 bar MAP. I do not think the tunes were configured for it. I tried my 2 bar with both tunes and saw little noticeable difference.
