Long-Range Fuel Tanks

I think you should just run it like a 96 and up cab and chassis, which had factory dual tanks. The factory setup (as far as the back tank goes) is the same AFAIK between gas and diesel. it operates like a single tank diesel. it has the fuel guage sending unit and the sucker tube w/ sock like diesel, with a frame mounted (above axle) 12V electric pump. On factory Dual tank 96 & up C&C's the back tank pumps to a tee in the front tank's filler vent hose.

So my idea is to get the tee, pump, wiring, lines, and balance module from a cab and chassis. Then I would get a diesel tank from a Suburban and mount the burby tank in the pickups spare tire location. If running OEM pickup box, cut hole in bed, have bodyshop put in fuel door to make it just like the front.

Then, since i feel it would be a PITA to get the balance module to work right and auto pump, I think just rig up a toggle switch (run 12v to it, then run 1 wire to the pump, utilizing the correct connector, connect wire from dash toggle to hot for pump, other wire needs to be grounded there. dont cut pump wires, so if you wanted to try and rig up balance module later everything would be intact w/ no splicing. We did just this on our 2000 gas, we had one male and female connector in the junk, so we plugged one in the chassis harness to keep everything clean, and then did the switch thing with the other connector.

I hope this is clearer than mud, rather than clear as mud. :)

Good luck!

Well, since I'll probably be bugging you for help on a turbo soon, I thought it only fair I crawl under my truck and get the whole part #010-01-6945. The build plate that is easy to see just had the last 4 on it. Hope that helps. Oh, and it's 46 gallons, I've been cheating myself out of a gallon.

Thanks, just pm me when you want a turbo. I like the 46 gallon tank setup.

Excellent idea also, I just didn't want to give up any bed space, I like the fuel under the truck. Just old fashioned I guess.

The fuel would stay under the truck, burb tank mounted in the spare location, but yes, you would lose bed space, as the spare would need to be in the bed.

(Edit: I guess I am not very clear, I re-read my post. gonna tweak it a bit now!)
