Oh Man I don't know what to do. This Burb is really nice and clean at 109K Miles. It's mine for 7k if I want it. It has every option. ON the other hand it's completley stock right to the PMD and my Tahoe has almost every mod availible. I love my 2 door but the truck has 178K miles. it was basically a plain Jane W/T . I swapped the grille, put in cruise and nicer seats. Wifey doesn't want either and beleive me I tried. So Keep the Tahoe or buy the burb.

pull some of the mods if interchangeable to the Burb and keep to put on the burb...

I thought of that but of course nothing is the same. The Tahoe is a 95 OBD1. Chip won't work, Fan is different,Turbo is different(turbo master) Down pipe and crossover too cheap to bother changing and the exuast was custom. I could pull the apillar and gauges I suppose but that was only about 300$ worth of stuff and probably more of a sellinh point with the Tahoe. I don't know what to do. The Burb is tight. My tahoe has 70k more miles on it. Burb is more practical for camping with more room and being 3/4 ton. If I buy the burb I'll start backwards this time and open the exhaust and do cooling upgrade first. No chip or turbo master etc until I see how it tows.

The Tahoe is in my sig. Now that I replaced the VSS the trans shifts fine . The truck has no know issues other than it runs hot towing but my camper is huge. it has NEVER been overheated. I was thinking 6k is a fair price. There is over 2k in mods done to it.

Buy the suburban... I love mine.
Move all the mods over since you will not get any money for them. You will need a piece to make it fit.
Sell the Tahoe. It is worth money because it is so rare even if it needs a trany

Gawd I hate it when I vote with the masses like that. But, that's a really sweet lookin' Sub' on the outside. If it's half as nice on the inside, well...
And 2/3 the miles to boot?

Ya know, like another piston-headed-buys-used-rigs-cause-they're-cheap-and-makes-them-better friend of mine likes to say; once in a while you just have to make a car payment. Take that Sub', deal with the Tahoe like an old friend being put out to pasture, and plan on one upgrade to the Sub every month or two or three. Pretty soon you'll feel like it's your own and you'll still have a great rig for way under $10k.

Good luck with the decision. (if you were on the left coast I might have to look at that Tahoe as a project..nah, Diana would shoot me if I brought home another stray)

Mike

The transmission is fine in the Tahoe. it was the VSS. It's already fixed. None of the mods will fit. I forgot to look but Bill H said the 97 has the 4 bolt fan. My Tahoe has the spin on. Actually though I beleive I still have the stock waterpump and fan from the Tahoe. I have to look Lot of work but i could swap it back or for that matter just swap the whole shootin match off the burb.

The strange thing is that the burban shouldnt be any more powerful or cool better than your Tahoe, but it might solve your problem just because the Tahoe has some other issue. And you'll appreciate the space.

97 was first year of oil squrter block, I would check the door jamb sticker to see if it was a late in the year or early in the year. But if it hasnt cracked and caused an issue yet, it is probably fine.

Please elaborate. I thought I remembered something about the 97's being a bad year.

I think I fixed then recaused the overheating problem. when I did the cooling upgrade it was fine. Then I added more boost more fuel and now I seruiosly think an ATA was what I needed. That's why with the burb, IF I buy it, I will open the exuast up first. Leave everything else stock. See how it tows, then do cooling upgrade. Bill H says his WP is still more flow than the 97. I thought the 97 had the better one. His fan is about the same price as buying the hayden severe duty but I'm not sure which is better or if that is what he is selling. I actually have a flowmaser DP, and crossove NIB that I never put on my 2000. well I did do the crossover but then ripped it off. Long story. So I could concievably with some elbow grease do the flowmaster, gut the cat, and swap the cooling upgrade from the Tahoe and then see how she tows. Off course while swapping complete cleaning of cooling system and it has dexcool right now. Adios to that. You can gte a nice full flush while the water pump is removed.

I think I listed the Tahoe too cheap. I put it on Craigslist as a goof for 6k. I already have people emailing. I listed it 1 hr ago.

Maybe I should just buy a Smart car....
Both trucks are great trucks but here's my thing, I'm friggin Irish and I know my luck. I will pass on the Burb and the the engine will blow in the Tahoe next week or something else catastrophic.

if you need the space get the suburban. less miles and upgraded cooling. and if you sell the tahoe for 6k and buy the burb for 7k that is 1k for just a upgrade in mileage, room, and cooling. get the surburban.

Buddy has me freaked now though over that piston skirt thing. I remember something about issues with the 97s from the old site ? Can anyone refresh my memory ?

one issue with the burb which I didn't mention but is probably trivial, The windshield leaks on the pass side. My Tahoe does too which I attribute to a botched replacement but sometimes that could be from a racked body that was hit. The windshield needs to be replaced it's cracked straight up and down dead center. again that could have just been a botched replacement.

the first 506 blocks in 97, were prone to cracking where they drilled the piston oil squirter. If it was made late in 97 like June through September then its not an issue. If it doesnt have any performance issues, good compression, and low coolant temps then its all good.
