Here is a mod I like. I still have not started the engine yet, but very soon! Cant get the GPs to come on, but thats another story.
Anyway I had previously located the batteries under the driver frame rail for the Isuzu diesel swap. I have put the 6.5 back in and came up with a version of ram air for the Burb. Its easy enough and just looking at the pictures you could reproduce what I did.

First make a bracket using existing holes in inner fender to bolt K47 box to.

I had the old Isuzu intake boot that works perfectly to fill the odd shape of the air box. It allows me to go back to stock if needed.

3" PVC elbow

Air box is bolted down.

Original hole in core support is untouched, just remove the plastic ducting.

This is another 3" elbow , but its called a street elbow. One end fits into the blue elbow pictured above and the other end fits the hole perfect. I'll trim the parking light to allow more direct air flow to the new inlet.

All done except for the CDR tube. I'll make a hole in the silicone elbow for that.

Looks good Leroy. That's very close to what I did with a gasser box and the K-47 filter element. Looking forward to how you plumb the CDR into the intake elbow. That's the only thing I have left to do at this point.

Thanks Don. Yeah the gasser box could work, but the exit hole is on opposite side and would'int fit as well in this case.

Looks good Leroy, just one thing. Why no ATT, can't find a vendor?:D

Its coming! I want to get familar with the stock 6.5 again then start adding goodies.

has anyone used a flow meter on this mod? I am still convinced the K47 sucking out of the fender with the factory ram air scoop behind the headlight is the way to go.

it does look pretty nifty though!

Looks similar to my setup but much more refined. More direct route to the air box and that is where the air is pulled from for the stock set up. I'm sure it's better then sucking air through the fender where the sun beats on it all day

I guarantee pressure is higher with a ram air effect. You will have losses drawing air though the fender too.

Thanks Jorge, anyone that does it is going to look very simular. There may be refinements or subtle differences, but only so much can be done with the same space and same box.

Thanks Don. Yeah the gasser box could work, but the exit hole is on opposite side and would'int fit as well in this case.

Yes, the gasser box is different in that respect. But, after messing around with it a bit I came to the conclusion I could cut a hole in the opposite end with no ill effects. The closed end of the K47 air filter is covered in soft rubber and effectively seals the now open stock end. The gasser box will not work in the stock K47 configuration as it will not connect properly to the fender opening, or fit next to the turbo due to not being properly shaped.

I found the gasser box in a wrecking yard for $20, so if someone was planning to relocate their air box anyway, and was wanting a K47 type box without the cost of buying a K47 box, the gasser box will will work. There is one thing to watch out for though. Not all years of gasser air box will work. The air muffler has to be a removable one, and not all are removable. I don't know what years to look for though as I found mine setting loose in a vehicle and was not sure if it was in the correct year vehicle.

Don

I found the same things.
Before I realized the gasser was what I could have used I had cut the 4" hole in opposite side of my K47 for the pass side mount with the Isuzu swap.
I like your idea though, for those going to a round element K47 type ram air mod it will be cheaper to use the gasser box and they are all over the junk yards.

sounds like a great idea, use the gasser boxes for less money, and sell all the un-molested K47 6.5L boxes on e-bay for much more money. of course I will be watching for one, still gotta fully outfit the fleet.

you guys would be appalled, I am still running fender tubes. :) the main reason is to keep any debris sucked in from staying in the fender, getting wet, and rotting out the body.

Looking good!! What did you use to attach the CDR tube and the gauge? Did you just cut a hole in the silicone tube tight enough for the stock CDR fitting to just barely pop in? I'm still needing to do that on mine.

Don

Was going to use a gromet, but it fit great just poping 2 holes in the silicone. One less thing to fail too.

Thank you!! Good to know. I hesitated doing that over concern about the difficulty getting a perfectly round hole so there would be no air/dust leaks.

Don

Thats real close to how I did mine

and the other side, I welded the Tube in

Here is how i mounted it to the stock battery base

Some leftover Nascar Carbon fiber makes a great Intake

This is how the stock setup gets its air, Not very good
