Intercooler with GMx vs. ATT-no cooler

So ive got to ask...where in the hell did you get that?? Ive been drooling over one for a long time, but i just cant seem to cough up all the money for the unit.

As for the ATT discussion here......540s10 is talking about swaping over to a manual trans. Now in my truck with the GMX and the 5spd, i can use all the low end boost and power I can get. Quite a few att owners claim some lag over the factory turbo settup, which in a manual trans aplication, is exactally what we dont need.

Now slim shady, i know you have the 5spd in your truck. What are your thoughts on this?

And i think it should be noted that If someone goes the ATT route with no re-flash, they should at least be setting -1.94. Correct?

Correct on the -1.94, I have a five speed and ran the ATT with a factory tune for quite awhile, There is no lag at botom end with a five speed and 4.10 gears. The tune makes the turbo come alive because you have more drive energy from the exhaust with the extra fuel.

I can't figure out who started this lag story. The turbo is not as quick to spool but there is no lag, lag to me is the lack of boost resulting in a none responsive accelerator pedal then all of a sudden you get response. My definition, there is no issues and I have had a GM 4 and GM 8 on my truck for a long time before I put the ATT on. Now if you have a wired shut tm style gm 8 or 4 the smaller turbo builds boost quickly, The ATT builds boost steadily but not as fats as the gm turbo, there is no noticeable pedal feel to me. JUST my 2 cents worth and I have been driving one almost as many miles as Turbine Doc and some others. With an Automatic there is no difference at all to me.

I have the opportunity to run a stock tuned '95 with GM4 side-by-side with a '99 with ATT and Heath GL4. The '95 has 4.10s and the '99 has 3.73s. There is no lag on the '99 and in fact it out accelerates the '95 across the full range. This so-called ATT lag is complete Internet BS.

:iagree: I think my truck accelerates better with the ATT, at any speed or load. I know my 0-60 times are better. What some people may be noticing is boost may not climb as quickly, but at any given speed or load the ATT is 1-2 psi lower than a GMx turbo. It does more with less as has been mentioned before.

i think it started when turbine doc first had the att and his torque converter was broken or something and it wasnt putting all the power to the ground. you guys can wade through te 30 or so pages of the replacement turbo thread but im pretty sure he said something about it in there.

Tell me. Mine came with an ISSPRO boost gauge that goes from 0 to 50 psi. Highest I've gotten it is 12 psi, but at sea level only 10 psi. Most of the time the needle barely moves. I need a gauge that tops out at 15 or 20.

I've seen 18 with a Bully Dog 0-50psi gauge, it reads lower than my ScanTech

You cant compare a stock tune side by side to a performance tune, and comment on turbo performance. Thats not a comparison at all. Call it lag, call it slower build up of boost, either is fine way to describe it. Lag by definition just means slower.

Ive compared them side by side in same vehicle, same tune, same exhaust, ATT is better ovarall performance, much better under load, GM4 is faster off the line 0-60 running empty. Before getting rid of the Cat and putting straight through muffler on the GM4 kicked the crap out of the ATT. Probably mostly to do with the Cat delete, and this upgraded exhaust is expected to be done prior to running ATT.

It is advertised as such, so in that it is represented accurately. It wasnt meant to be a racing turbo but a worker. Wont show huge dyno gains because its a matter of endurance not a single burst.

My 0-60 time dropped a good second with the ATT, I guess every truck will respond different just like they do with a reflash

Yes, well like mentioned before, the big guys with 6 wheels and low gears have a little more load to them than 1500s. You running empty is like me towing my girlfirends car :)

Isspro makes 0-30 and 0-15 gauges. I have a 0-15 and it definately makes it easier to read. It was fine with stock motor but since reflash, I have bounced it off the peg a couple times and I think the ATT is gonna have fun beating up on that little peg too.

I dont feel like my exhaust got any louder with the ATT. The engine itself is a little more noisy, clattery diesel sound, but the exhaust seems the same to me. I have 4 inch Diamondeye, cat delete and straight thru muffler mounted backwards. You wouldn't even notice my truck has aftermarket exhaust, unless you were familiar with 6.5s.

Matuva, what the heII? Sold?

yup  call that dog's days...
Sometimes life is :9898:, but at least, I'm still with you.
I know the guy who bought my truck is more than happy and proud of it...
And people here in my location continue to come and see me for help in solving their truck issues,

I'll be installing soon the 3rd A-team turbo of New Caledonia and a Kojo tune on a truck the owner just bought...
so I'm still in 6.5 crowd... and this zuki is funny...

Thanks for the clarification. There's not many runnning this turbo with a 5spd, and if I end up buying one thats where it will be going.

I don't think 2 extra wheels on the back makes any difference, tire life is double a single rear wheel with the same weight. My 1 ton is probably 1500 lbs heavier than a 1500 at most. Matt's truck is the heavy one with the service body. The heavier drive components would take some extra power.
