I smell fuel after shutoff. Hard start cold

There are 4 holes in the filter manager where fuel can pass through.

1. Input from LP
2. Output to IP
3. Output to T-valve
4. The black valve on top of the filter

Obviously they all have their purpose. The main purpose of the valve on top of the filter allows you to get the air out of the fuel lines and filter manager. The cleanest way to use it is connect a 1/4" clear tube to it and put the other end in a container. Turn the valve counter clockwise and open completely until diesel flows out in a constant stream w/ no air bubbles or spitting. I found the easiest way to jump the LP is to run some trailer wire from the driver side battery to the LP. Let it run until fuel flows free.

On OBD2 vehicles there is a 'lift pump diagnostic' connector right past the underhood fuse box. By connecting that to the positive terminal with a foot long length of wire, it runs the lift pump. No need to go all the way to the LP physically.

TD Discovered this and its in the stickies and other threads.

Installing a momentary switch permanately is a great idea so you just press the button, then tighten the fuel flt bleeder when air is out.

Great find TD!

I have been jumping the lift pump by pressing the lift pump fuse to the post on the firewall next to it. Seems to work fine. Mines a OBD1 truck. If the lift pump works when I jump it then I would'nt think it needs replacment. I never actually hear the lift pump when I turn the ignition on, should I? It seemed very audible when I jumped it. I mean hell, I was standing on the passengers side of the truck when I jumped it and could hear it thumpin away. I am going to replace the OPS when I do the PMD anyway.
Thanks JMJnet I have been emailing back and forth with them already.

She lives again !!!!!!!!!

Got it running tonight! The main issue was the PMD, and the other was the fuel leaks I had.
Thanks to everyone who gave advice. Also thanks to Leroy from PMDCABLE.COM for hooking me up today. I bought the DTech pmd and relocation kit. It has a very adaquete heat sink and the 6 foot harness was perfect for mounting the pmd behind the bumper. He includes the #9 resistor with the PMD at no additional cost. I enjoyed talking to him, he is very informative about the parts he sells and the showed me a product he is planning to market soon I feel will be a great upgrade for any diesel, but I'll let him break that out for you guys. The craftsmanship of his parts is top notch and I plan on purchasing some more of his mods in the near future.
As I said above I mounted the PMD behind the bumper. I made my own bracket for the heat sink to mount to out of some alluminum angle I had laying around. I used the mounting bolts for the liscense plate mount as my mounting point. Came out nicely IMO. I don't think I'd of figured out this issue with my truck without the forum, MUCHO PROPS !!!!!!!!!!:D:thumbsup:

A few pics of the kit and mounting.

Am I late to the party? looks like everyone is going home.

Anyway thanks James for the kind words and referal (and JMJNet). Glad you got it fixed up.

LP relay on OBDI does not appear to have a prime function. Just crank. You should check the LP pressure to be sure it is working when the engine is running. It can cause the PMD to overheat if the LP is INOP.

Gauge tap via a hose on the water drain is a quick and dirty test.
