I brought home a 2006 LT1 Summit White CCSB 4x4 LLY 150,000 miles 20" XD wheels 285/55 Michelin XT2 tires Edge chip (will be changed for EFI when funds allow) Tan Leather interior with a floor shift 4x4 (never seen that combo).

It came with 2 KNN filters and a fresh oil change 15/40 Rotella T

The fuel filter life is down to 8%, what is the best quality stock filter to run in these?

The lie-o-meter said 20.8 mpg after I reset it and drove 85 miles through some hills and city driving. It had ~3/4 of a tank when I got it so I cant hand calculate accurately.

I will post pics when I get a few good ones taken with my camera.

I feel like I have cheated on my 6.5's

Good for you, Tanman! (Or should I say, Benedict Arnold?)

Don't go gettin' all uppity on us folk down here in the neighborhood. :D

j/k ... congrats!

Congratulation on the new ride!!!!

When the K&N filter needs cleaning be really careful of the amount of oil you reapply to it. The K&N oil and the MAF sensor are know not to really like each other.

I until recently have always run an AC fuel filter without any problems. When you reinstall the WIF sensor be careful not to over tighten it. Screw it back in by hand until the O ring just touches the filter then turn it 180° more.

Look forward to seeing the pictures.

Congrats on the truck...

The lie-o-meter will be way off (on the high side) with a tune installed.
23+ is definitely possible an an all highway trip going 65-70 though. I was able to repeat that several times with my old 06 LLY.

Thanks for the comments.

I have always used WIX in all of my trucks (unless set up with a bypass or aftermarket set up), I just asked because I know fords can only use ford products. If any brand will work then I will stick with WIX, its a pretty reputable filter company i think.

I had all sorts of problems with KNN on my 4.8 and 6.0 chevy trucks, MAF went out all the time and I cleaned the MAF every oil change. The truck came with 2 KNN's so one can be cleaned and oiled waiting for the next oil change to go on. When funds allow I will install a cold air intake, amsoil filter (if one is made that sixe), or build a custom sealed box with amsoil element.

Also on in the plans are an amsoil bypass oil fiter and full synthetics in everything. Best stuff on the market IMO.

I have used EFIlive on my previous gas engines and know there is nothing on the market that can compete with the custom tunability of EFI.

PCV reroute, EGR block, Resonator Delete, Exhaust, and EFI and I THINK will call it a day for awhile.

Being a 6.5 owner I am naturally concerned about milage. I drive ~1000 miles/ week with a 4 wheeler in the bed, If i can get 15-17 loaded as said I will be happy. 20+ unloaded is just icing on the cake!

I bought an 06 for the fact that the 6speed seems to have improved the milage when compared to an 04.5-05 LLY. 01-04 LB7 has injector gremlins but can also get insanely good milage. It seemed if I can fit the bill for an 06-07 lly/lbz then I SHOULD have the best of both worlds, milage and reliability.

Thanks everyone! I will get pics when I find my camera's charging cord :cuss:

Congrats on the new truck and welcome to the DMax world! For a stock fuel filter I personally would recomment the Parker/Racor (maker of the OEM one) ones that Greg sells.

I also wouls try to lose the K&N but as Bill says, it might be OK if you are careful with the oil.

Definitely lose the K&N. The stock filters flow more than enough air to support a stock or near stock truck, and nothing out filters it.

If you're lookin at an intake, S&B's are hard to beat. Its an enclosed system and many of us have had good luck with them.

Congrats.

I would stay away from Wix fuel filters. They are smaller thus less water storage in the bottom of the filter. They also leak around the WIF sensor and limp the engine. Dealer says they have had lots of them towed in with the WIF sensore having fallen out of the Wix filter.

Toss the K&N. You are better off without a filter in place at all vs. a K&N - least it won't oil the MAF up! The K&N don't filter worth a damn. Then they plug up really easy. I have walked over the filtration failure of K&n as it messed up a idle air control valve with dirt.

congrats on the new to you LLY, I second the opinion on the K&N, they are junk and are horrible. Stay with the OEM filter as they are proven and out perform the K&N

Do you have the panel filter or the big donaldson style filter? If you have the panel, get an Amsoil EaA filter for it, if you have the Donaldson, get the stock filter and gut the box. Supposedly they flow enough to support 500 WHP.

I have the donaldson style box, I have also posted the KNN's on craigslist. I am not crazy about oiled filters either so I'm not even going to argue about getting rid of them. I would like an S&B for the Dmax but I am getting one for the 6.5 first.

I have put 1200 miles on the truck since monday and have enjoyed every second. Thumbsup I have been getting anywhere from 17-21 hand calc, the lower numbers are inculding hauling some of my old trucks off to a scrap yard and hauling a 1200gal fertilizer tank. I got 21.7 with 2000# of seed loaded in the bed. I have been running in performance since I got it home.

After reading the FAQ sticky I have decided I have the LBZ, I have blue badges.

I am going to edit this post in a few minutes with pics of the truck. (they are from my cell phone but they get the point across)

If it's an LBZ the eighth digit in the vin will be a "D"

Thanks, I will take a look. I was just going off the fact that it is an early 06.

I found my cameras power cable so after it charges for an hour or so I am going to take some pics that will be slightly better than phone pics.
