I Got steering issues

I thought all the wiring and such was on the bottom of the powersteering pump. I guess it would have to tie into the steering somewhere. wierd on the abs light tho

GM dealer says steering sensor disconnect affects ABS.
I guess they're right.

Steering sensor controls oil flow to the steer box trough a solenoid valve bypass at the bottom of the PS pump.
Anyway, that's what i get out of it.

Sofar disconnecting the Steer wheel sensor did not affect drivabillty or braking.
Steering is the same, time will tell if the problem reccurs.I hope not cause its scary.

I posted an error.

ABS light stays off,it was the E brake light that was on.
Must have leaned on the pedal when i was farting around under the dash, releasing the pedal made that light go off as well.
So it appears disconnecting the steering position senser doesn't cause any issues.

But the steering still goes wacky and the steerwheel spokes are now offset by 45 degree(used to be only 15 or so) from straight to the left and there is a slight pull to the right
Steer hard left and right a couple times and the wheel is straight again till the next incident:skep:

I'd park it till you figure it out. Still seems like it ought to be the steering box. Maybe change it to the older style

I dug that steerbox out today.
Its definitely buggered up,turns heavy as hell almost from end to end, feels like there is broken ball bearings in the rack.
The 95 box is apparently diff from the 98 so i think I'm better off to get a rebuild than to fart around trying to rebuild it myself.
Buuhut a Box and a pitman arm is $440 :skep::rolleyes5:

Still eye balling the 95 steerbox, its ;) at me so sweet:)

I changed te fluid, bled the PS system and went for a spin.
So far so good,it steers good and easy and trails well ,there seems no adverse issues with a 95 box in a EVO(disabled) PS controlled truck like my 98 but i need more time on the road to be sure.
Of course the replacement box left my steer wheel far out of center(30 degree) so i got to get that adjusted at a wheel alignment center.

Well the steering is still buggered up:mad2:
Steering sensor disconnected,EVO valve disconnected.Steering box replaced with a known good 95 box,PS fluid flushed, refilled and bled.Brakes work flawlessly.
It drove good for 300 ml and almost landed me in the friggin ditch again today coming home with a 1000 lb diesel engine laying in the box.
The symtoms are exactly the same as before, truck pulls to the right and the steer wheel is offset almost 45 degree to the left.
WTF is causing it :???:

PS pump relief valve??
G-damn dealers are no help what so ever ,Aparently i am the only one with this issue:rolleyes5:

oh by the way I ordered a new steering wheel sensor. it was supposed to be in last thursday and it's still not here

Thanks for the tip Doob,i didn't think of that.
No reason though for the CV to lock up going straight ahead and in 2 wh drive.

You are thinking OBS trucks.

Actually just rotate a front tire off the ground. Watch the CV joints rotate with the tire even in 2wd. This 'new' design lacks hubs... And lacks wheel hop in turns vs. the old designs.

So the CV joints are spinning all the time. It is why the 4wd's get lower MPG's.

I suppose the alignment collars are slipping after a shock load like that?

i went to the wheel alignment shop again yesterday to check the whole shebang out again and have the steer wheel centered.
I was on the bridge for damn near an hour and a half, they checked and measured everything and didn't find a damn thing wrong with it but they fine tuned toe in,camber and caster to as close to perfect as possible.
On the way home the truck now pulls steady slighty to the right:???:

That may change with a tire rotate.

I don't know if centering the steerwheel(adjusting the tierods till the pitman arm was centered) did the trick, but i did not had an issue in the 1000 km i traveled over the weekend.
