I know NOTHING about computers so bear with me :banghead:
I have something called "Mcafee SecurityCenter". Something came up and I clicked "ok" before I read it all, something about changing registry or something. I musta hit yes and since then I got lots of pop ups. How do I fix this? Shot gun?

Have you run a system scan with McAfee? Does it report that you have any issues?

If not, do so. Update the McAfee application first, then run the system scan.

It'll take a while, so let it run and come back later. Post the results here.

We'll go from there.

I dose a scan about once a month, and it always reports nothing wrong.. How do I update the application?

I don't run that one myself, but you should have an option to update. Either by right clicking the icon in the lower right of your screen, or by opening the program and finding the options. It's there somewhere. Most programs have an option to auto update, some folks like it, but others want to do it manually.

Ok I clicked updates and it said Im up to date... Is that good/right?

It's good that you have the updates caught up...yes. I take it you just installed this program? The popups started with the install of this program?
If you think the install of that program did it, you can either install over the top of it (where it's currently located) and reselect your options (carefully), or uninstall the program to see if that's what really is causing it.
You can also temporarily disable the program by closing it to see if the popups persist.

...a little suggestion for you - try Mozilla Firefox as your browser once, and get the popup blocker plugin for it.

I think the Mcafee came on the computer, I dont remember installing it. The pop ups started a couple months ago, I just never though to ask for help I guess...
How can I temporarily disable it?

Uh oh...I just reread your first post...you said ok to something and now are getting popups. First of all, DON'T click on anything that pops up.
What do those popups say? I hope they don't say your puter is infected...

The pop up that i clicked on was a little one on the bottom right corner, I think it was from mcafee but not positive..
Now I got full screen pop ups of adds for cars, food, trips, insurance ect...

I'm using "at&t yahoo" and it has a pop up blocker up but it dose nothing to theses new ones.
Some times I go for hours and get none, sometimes ill get 4 at once and one every 2 minutes..

Justin, if you have persistent popups, you have a browser hijacker on your system. Most of them are fairly benign and easy to get rid of, but we're gonna need some more information to hlep you... this stuff is like trying to diagnose a truck at a distance... "it sounds like a rusty tin can with a striped sock inside of it, rolling on gravel, ya know? You think it might be my Fuel pump or my lug nuts?"

Any details are important...

- what the pop-ups say on them
- what McAfee says when you run it
- when the pop-ups happen (and how often)

...stuff like that.

If you know some of the answers, then post 'em. I still think you should give McAfee a run to see if it picks anything up. Do a complete system scan.

Browser pop-up blockers stop pop-ups that come from the 'net... these may be generated from the inside, and browser hijackers are a whole 'nother matter.

Run McAfee, take note of what it tells you, and then get back to us.

We'll get you all fixed up, brother.

If you have Windows XP, do a system restore - it's on the start menu under All Programs > Accessories > System Tools. Tell it to restore the computer to an earlier date, pick a date prior to when you first noticed the problems. If that doesn't work, Down Load Spybot and Adaware 2008 - both are freeware - do a search for them on Google. Run both of them - Spybot will catch the hijacker and delete it from the system. If it doesn't Adaware will.

I got this message today:

McAfee has blocked a potentially unwanted program (PUP) on your computer. If you do not recognize it, we recommend that you remove the program.

About this Potentially Unwanted Program
Name: Adware-ISM
Location: C:\Program Files\QdrPack\QdrPack17.exe

Spyware, adware, and other potentially unwanted programs can harm your computer, compromise its security, and damage valuable files.

I guess I should hit the "remove this program" butten?

I removed it, I think.. Ill run a scan tonight when I have a bit more time, thanks so much for the replys!

uh-oh... Justin, when you do your scan tonight, check what it says, and post if it tells you that qdrpack is still there. We may have to get rid of it a different way.

I am scanning now, Ill post results when its done..
After removing that "pup" I still get the pop ups if that means anything..

pup is PopUpProgram...

what you have is classified as a trojan downloader. Keep in touch.

No, but stay back from it, at least 6 feet at all times, just in case...

Just kidding.

You need to get this crap off your system, and it isn't all that easy... Don't give up, and don't stop until it's off of there, otherwise you'll end up re-installing the system, which is a real pain in the butt

You scared me there with the first line! :holyshirt:
I wont give up, but I have no idea what I'm doing..
I'm up to 46460 items scanned...
