Huge problems :( Engine maybe

I could be wrong, Matt, but from what I saw, I don't think there's any reason to be concerned about any upward 'dimples' in it. I would venture a guess and say that any issue would be negligible.

Seriously, fix the head and bolt her all back together. Start looking for a new block to rebuild. That's what I would do, it's what I'm doing right now.

I would get some sand paper and sand off any dimples and blow it all clean with some parts cleaner. Leave the pan alone and look for a good used engine.

You don't want any sharp edges or points on the top of a piston. Those points will go red hot and pre-ignite your air/fuel charge. That causes all kinds of bad things to happen.

Matt I've got an old 6.2 that was running when it came out of a truck, no telling how long it was running, but had a piece of glow plug tip imbedded in the piston top, get a dremel tool clean up the burr, take er easy and run it until you get some time to take it down and do it rite, maybe find a used but good block, remember North Maine has one in Me for sale, and put that together for drop in swap, then sell yours.

As far a pulling pan to inspect webs, that was offered up since you were going to be pulling pan anyway to go for the 1 piston, to inspect while there to make sure it was worth doing a band-aid repair.

As far as looking a Quantum's stuff at old site, go ahead if you want examples of what not to do, that boy was a rolling disaster looking for a place to happen.

If you're looking for a shortblock, my 18:1 is almost complete ):h :p

I've done a single cylinder replacement on a 6.2L. Absolutely no trouble with that engine until it broke another piston 2 years later(completely different hole). It ran for about 100,000km-150,000km before breaking the next piston(glowplug melted off into the cylinder and snapped the piston in half).

Just always remember that it *could* be a problem and be semi-prepared for it.

Use new bolts, use new FEL-PRO gaskets, replace the nylon keepers, make sure the pushrods go back into the same spot and have the right end up, use grey permatex as a valve cover gasket, make sure everything is as clean as possible....should be good to go....

I honestly have no reason to believe my head is cracked at all.

Can this head be put back together and re-installed without it being sent off to a machine shop to repair the head? (Seems to be my largest time issue ATM).. I want to verify with you guys that this step is necessary.

Thanks again for all the replies/help.

You should be fine with just cleaning the head up and putting it back on but what happend with the valve? It hung up for some reason and that needs to be fixed. If the valve seat, and valve are all good and set up right and the problem that caused it is fixed then you should be good for a while.

Appears the clips let go perhaps, one came out, thus the marks on my piston, and it just hung up. I ordered a complete hardware set for that cylinder for the head, and plan on putting it together, felpro gaskets, cleaning head, and seeing what i have.

Now is also a good time to change over from the orange a/f to the green. What is the capacity of the system? How many Gallons?

NAPA's computer said it takes almost 28 quarts! 7 Gallons worth. I'll have a guy a know get me a case of the green, and get that going at the same time. I think that Dex-Cool is from factory with 120k on it. Not too shabby.
