First off I want to say I'm new to this site, So hello Everyone.

Reason I'm here is I just picked up a 1994 Chevy K2500 4x4 Suburban over the weekend. With the 6.5 Turbo Diesel Engine in it. I know nothing about the history on this S.U.V other then I was told it started smoking really bad and the guy parked it...That's another story and Topic for later.

My problem lays in getting it started first off...The last owner had reworked the wiring to say the least for a *high end* stereo system. Replaced the Alt. and new batteries for the system. Well he took all that off and left it with out any batteries or an alt on it.

I need to know how to run the battery cables for the dual batteries. The last guy had replaced all the battery cables with aftermarket cables for the stereo. And it's just a freaking mess. To say the least it's all over kill and I'm wanting to do away with the 6 Ground cables for the batteries this guy had put on there.

SOMEONE PLS tell me the correct way to run cables for Dual Batteries and to the starter,Ground cables and such. I tried to hook it up the way it was I got nothing..No power or anything. I just want to take it all off and start over before I burn it down doing it the last owner had it ran.

Thanx in Advance!!

Zach

The drivers side battery should have the pos term connected to the pass side pos term. the drivers neg cable should be connected to a bolt on the engine. The pass side batt should have a cable from the pos post to the starter and a 10 guage wire going to the alt. The neg cable on the driv side batt should go to a bolt on the engine and a smaller wire to the fender. On my 96 the neg cables use an intake bolt for the connection. Any more than this and you will need a wiring diagram.

Ok I'll try that....So far the 10g Wire from the POS to the Alt. is what's missing.

Alt. was already missing and wasn't forsure if it ran from the Batt. to the starter or batt. to the Alt.

I'll start there and let you know. Thanx so much already. It's a start!!

Ok got all that done now. Next question is....I have the Power wire from the batt. running to the Batt. post on the Alt. Now then my problem is that It has a 4 wire plug going into the Alt. its self.

BUT....only 2 wires are running to something on the wire harness. and the other two are just open.

On the 4 wire Alt. Plug-

White- wire going to the harness

Brown- wire going to the harness

Red- wire Open

Another brown- wire open

Still no power

I'm guessing not. Looks like it's been replaced and looks brand new.

Man what a mess I've gotten myself into already....

Couldn't pass the deal up tho.

So if I'm still not getting any power .... Then what. Is there a main power fuse ?? I know I'm asking alot of newbie questions. But I've always been a ford guy and all my Equipment is Ford. New to the GM world...

That's why I'm here :)

Once again Thanx!

I'll check my truck and manual after work.

Your alternator on the drivers side? I think mine has a line from drivers side battery to the alternator.

Stuff is different in 94, so hold on a little. I'll check my truck later.

Yes it's mounted on the Drivers side. Let me know what you find out. Thank you.

I have the Power wire going from the POS on the Batt. to the starter. And still nothing...Checked the Batt's and they are good. Was wondering if maybe when he was pulling the Batt's out maybe he touched the cables and blew something??

No I don't think you understand there should be a wire from the harness (a large red one) that takes power from the starter to the rest of the truck.

On Drivers side there should be a heavy gauge wire running to the junction block on the firewall behind the master cylinder.

Passenger battery
- terminal : 1 heavy cable to intake, 1 light gauge(10) to inner fender
+ terminal: 1 heavy cable to starter, 1 heavy cable to drivers side positive terminal

drivers battery
- terminal : 1 heavy cable to intake, 1 light gauge(10) to inner fender
+ terminal : 1 heavy cable to junction block, 1 heavy cable to passenger's side positive
terminal

IIRC alternator charging wire goes to junction block and stud on alternator and a 3(?) wire plug that plugs into the female terminal on alternator

Ok I got it running now...It was missing the Wire from the Pos. side of the Batt. to the block on the fire wall.

Now that it runs...It's puffing White Smoke out the exhaust and blowing white blow by smoke out the Oil fill tube and the Oil dip stick. Along with missing...or loading up. Rough idle...

What do you guys think...Injector??

goodness, all the details you can provide the better. First of all, do you got an SES light, codes in it?

Check the codes with the truck off. insert a jumper (i.e. paperclip) between contacts A & B of the OBD port under the dash. Turn the key to IGN ON position and watch the SES light flash. It just flashes the codes like Flash....Flash, Flash.....................Flash....Flash,Flash......................Flash....Flash, Flash
is code 12, and it repeats all codes 3 times.

Turn key off and remove the jumper from the port before cranking the engine.

Best to clear the codes, then run the engine and see what comes back.

To clear the codes...with the jumper on A&B in place and IGN ON depress the brake and accelerator pedal at the same time for 15 seconds, then check to make sure you only get code 12, which is saying PCM diagnostics are normal.

Ok it flashed 9 times all 3 times. Sorry for the lack of info... :)
