Heath Cooling upgrade.......

Today I towed the trailer again but with the steel fan. I had about 29K combined. I had to start uphill twice and I was amazed how well the truck did. It is about the heaviest load I have ever towed. The temp at cruise was one line past 180 till the starts on the hill. It moved 2 lines from 180 but as soon as I got rolling it went back to 1 line over. I did hear the fan kick in today but it definetly isn't as loud as my H1. Temps were rock solid. I will try swapping fans this week and see if there is a difference. But I think the the clutch was mis-boxed or the wrong one shipped by accident possibly. I'll have to call Bill tomorrow as he is out for the day. Plus there was no issue prior to installation, the issue happened after the component was installed. I bought this kit even though my cooling system never overheated and is in top shape. I was told that this kit would make my cooling system even better. Since I travel alot I wanted to make sure I had the best cooling available. Plus this in no way should be misguessed as a complaint, rather a curiosity if anyone else experienced a simular experience. I am gratefull for the Heath boys help and gladly use ALL their products.

GJF, you got the wrong P/N and a defective clutch that doesn't engage?

Coinsedence?....Talk about bad luck.

Swap the new fan (plastic) to your old clutch, if you have time....I'm very curious.

Buddy, I run 2 180* Robert Shaw T Stats.....Kennedy or SS has them.

FYI I just ran the burb over to Ga from Ms last nite, since 2007 it has Heath pump, spin on clutch, and 9 blade plastic fan, 86F outside temp, running 100% load, 100% APP, 107 mph max speed, max temp on H2O was 207F, normal average was 199F at 60-85 mph. When I bought the burb it would go to 215 F just idling in traffic, I would keep it cool by turning on defrost to pull off some of the excess heat, DEEP rad and AC core cleaning and Heath cooling system upgrades were the ticket to fixing my overtemp situation. In 2006 I put on TM set at min setting scrapped vac pump, 4" exhaust, and GLE program, and remoted the FSD. Also has Lube Specialist lines and cooler, and FS2500 bypass kit installed in spring 2008

I'll be posting all collected data later in the week (burb soon to also have ATT took baseline data) sans EGT/mech boost/or BP (no EGT on the burb yet). Highly recommend you call Heath vs. posting here, they don't monitor the site much for issues, so won't be aware of any issues you still have after installing their kit.

Hey TD. Did you go with the dual thermostat setup or the single. I thought I remembered you saying you were going to try the single, but am not sure which way you decided to go.

I'm wondering if people with new fan and a 180* stat are seeing more improvement because airflow at the fan clutch will be warmer sooner and actually engage earlier, but if you have 195 stat it obviously wont engage until thermostat opens and enough water to alumunum to air and back to metal heat tranfer happens to engage the clutch.

Burb still has dual stat, single stat going on the new truck project engine if I ever get down time to install it, too many projects going at once and commutes Ms to Ga are a time killer.

Finished the o/h on my 90 GMC C1500 4.3L for my son, next project is powerplant swap from this burb into a 96 body, then after that the project engine into the truck.

I gotta say, I like the Heath boys but what GJF is sayin I might be agreein with. I have not had a chance but I was going to pull the stock steel fan off my 2000 and put it on my 95. I cannot use my stock 95 one anymore cause the Heath water pump used center hub. I have long suspected that fan is not drawing air and now that you posted this Iam going to swtich the fans . I have never "heard" the Heath fan pulling air like my factory one does. what's even more whack is from your sig you are running a ATA so you definitely should not be having problems.

Aces, if your 95 fan is attached to the fan clutch by 4 bolts you should be able to swap the 95 fan to the Heath Clutch.

I ran into clearance issues between shroud and 21" Dmax fan. Due to time constraints I swapped my old fan blade to the new clutch until I have time to trim the shroud. Haven't had any problems yet.

Thanks, But I don't think the Heath Clutch is working, but like I said I'm going to swap with my 2000 before I cry wolf. Still didn't get the turbo on yet. Nagging wife, nagging kid sick dog, Ughh.

Corrective procedure when installing DMax fan is merely trim the 90* angle lip off your fan shroud.................

10-4. I knew you had mentioned using the single t-stat somewhere, I just couldn't remember the particulars.
