We'll see how this stuff works.....Need to get gaskets for intake and IP. Is there a giant O-ring that goes on the IP?

Do I have to treat this bitch to a nice dinner out with a good bottle of cab? I can't get the IP to slide in. I have the pin hole at 3 O'clock and same with the IP pin but not. Tried moving engine back and forth and no.

Do I need to detach all the injection lines to do this?

Hate it when shit fights back.

No injection lines attached to the IP... Check the mounting and center of the gear for any dirt that will bind it up. I have had the gear attempt to go on at an angle and bind up as well.

Lines aren't attached to the IP. Center of the gear is cleaned. It goes in until the pin hits.

The thrust button pin that runs on the front cover or the alignment/timing pin is hitting the gear? The thrust button should move in and out on a spring. If the pin is hitting the gear it's off timing. The alignment pin has to go through the gear and there are two ways to put it in. The wrong way - all 3 bolts don't go in, and, the proper way allows all three gear bolts to go in.

The pin on the IP. Can't get it to line up with the hole in the gear. I can feel where the hole is and I can see where it is with a mirror. I set the pin on the pump there, but can't get it in.

As WW said I think there are two holes in the gear for that pin, but only one will fit properly.

Yes the rest are threaded screw holes and they are set closer in towards the center. They should never line up with the pin.

hmmm. I guess I need to go look at a gear.... I was thinking there were three screw holes, and a round hole and a slightly oval hole for the pin.

Yup. 5 holes. 3 for screws, 1 for pin, 1 for screwing you up when aligning the pin.

So I gave up on it today as I had to clean up for an event tonight. Thinking two people, one for moving the engine while the other holds the pump in place against the gear. What do you think?

You should be able to look at the position the old pump came off in, and spin the nee pump to it, then install.

Even without an old pump to match up, you can get it close, then yes have 1 person operate a hand flywheel turner while the other guides the pupm in.

I did that with the old pump. Things moved so I'm off. It's too hard for one person to both hold the pump in place while also turning the engine. Can't ask my wife to do either. I'll call my son.

So tell me that the IP can only go in the round hole and not the oval hole? Is there only one way the 3 bolts line up?

So the pin goes in the oval shaped hole, else the bolts will not line up.

Remind me what a biatch those 12 point nuts are?

I'm on a step stool laying across the engine to do this. Fun, Fun, FUN!

Next up, reconnect injector lines.

This is the part I want to remind you that your local mechanics would screw this up, and charge you around $100 an hour to do so.

Yes oval hole is the pin hole. The little round hole should have FU stamped on it for how many times it has messed up so many people.

Well I caught before I went too deep, because I could only get one of the bolts in holding it to the timing gear.

I have to hook up injector lines, but it's too hot. I should go for a swim.
