Head Light Decisions????

Bump.

I didn't forget guys.

I have received the lights, made the mod and took pics. I have now to do the write up.

I'll do that ASAP

Any update? I need to do the plow headlight wiring on one of my burbs soon, and would like to do this at the same time....

Yes, I did the headlight mod per Matuva's directions and it came out rather well. I've tested one low beam HID and harness assembly and could not get it to work. I'm pretty busy working on the front end suspension/brakes of the truck and will get to the HID mod after finishing that work.

Reverse the polarity. What you think is positive is actually negative and vice versa. At least that was the problem on mine.

Are you saying to reverse the red and black leads from the relay to the battery? Otherwise, the rest of the connections, including to the light, are one way only, male to female, unless wiring has gone queer like the rest of this country.

IIRC, just the plug on the lamp.

The plug on the lamp? The HID comes with two leads from the lamp: one female and one male. These plug into their opposites in the HID harness kit. No way to reverse them without cutting and splicing.

the headlights turn on and off by switching the negative side. so it messes with your mind.

So am I to switch the battery leads in the harness?

I already had to clip off the ring terminals that came with them in order to fit the battery post mod.

reverse the wires coming from stock harness to bulbs. With HID, these wires go to the ballast on each side. If you trust the clips, most of the time you're wrong, rotate the plug 180° and go.
First time I did HIDs on our truck, I spent more than an hour cursing ... before rotating the plug

Here's a picture of the plug ends from the HID wiring harness that I purchased from Mad Maxx here:

Female/male leads on the left come from the ballast and hook into the male/female leads 2nd from left, which go to the light bulb. Plug in the center comes from relay and is not used. Plug to the far right fits the stock plug that formerly plugged onto the halogen bulb. The plugs only fit one way, so there is no opportunity to switch them.

Please enlighten me on how this is done.

I guess it depends on what you want. I would rather see well than look good. And, as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I kind of like the WT grille. :smile5:

couldnt have said it better myself!

also, do you have a link to those bulbs that you mentioned earlier?

see which connector you can rotate 180° to match polarity in the ballast.

Look inside the female connectors, ballast or harness, there are no notch, so you can freely revert them. ;)

Thanks. Yes there's no notch on the inside, but definitely one on the outside of the female plug. Probably does not matter at the ballast.

BTW, what the heck does the ballast do?

Like I said, on the Relay Input Plug, Flip it 180* and Plug it in. Turn On the Lights, and the HID's will come on. Halogens aren't Polarity Sensitive, but HID's are.

The Ballasts Provide over 20k Volts to the Bulbs to make them Light.
