Hard Start After Hot

That almost sounds as bad as a p.o.s. Prestolite starter that comes in hummers it cranks so slow, haha. Kick that starter to the zombie day parts shelf and get the powermaster in there. I hope you got 150,000 miles out of that starter, cuz it sounds that old.

Batteries and cables are all good/clean, right?

@Will L. is dead on: It's not cranking fast enough period! You lost 1 of 4 brushes in the starter or you got a bad battery. Recall you need to test from the terminals you are using as the unused terminals on a battery can test good while the others are high resistance or burnt open in the battery.

Air bubble may be ok, if there a bunch of air moving through the lines that builds up 1 hour after shutoff?

Still an air bubble in the line when it started this AM. I will order the PowerMaster 9052. My son says the starters are
a bitch to install.

Mine has always had a single air bubble in the 1/4” return line. As long as you have one I think you are fine. It’s many bubbles or a steady stream of bubbles while it’s running that gets you.

You just need to be quadruple jointed. Because being double jointed don’t let you bend enough.
You also need a lot of patience and a carton of cigarettes to help calm the nerves down.
Seriously though, it’s not that bad. It would help to be quadruple jointed for the starter bracket install

Yeah, a trapped air bubble is nothing. A small stream of bubbles is the thing to watch out for.

And the little bracket is the only part that sucks, which is why so many people don’t put them back on it. Big mistake.
Now as for it being hard... hummer/ hmmwv starter is hard to change. It is not uncommon to hear of a guy knocking out a tooth.

@Big T your son is correct. Going in I use a floor jack and a piece of wood to hold the rear of the starter level. The main bolts go in and bind up if the starter isn't level. They then fall back out when you go for the next bolt to hand thread in. Usually smack one in the head. I have been known to lay under the truck for hours getting the bolts started. I use a wobble socket and a long extension through the wheel well to get the brace bracket bolt out/in.

The starters are also heavy esp. the older direct drive units. Careful you don't smash your hand when the last bolt comes out...

Googles worn under the truck will keep the steady rain of dirt out of your eyes.

I must apologize. I forgot the exhaust in the way on pickups. No clue how I forgot, but yeah that part sucks to not have an open area. And I forget that the first 200 starter swaps is a big learning curve. After that many there is just a “feel” to lifting the starter with one hand and starting a bolt with the other that I developed.

Yeah the direct drive starters are like a 2/3 size prestolite- hate them too. Omg, why would Anybody still buy that type?

Well here’s my bitch. Lost most of the summer jacking off on the IP pump, which many or may not be done. I think I need to change out the starter to rule out the slow cranking as an issue or cause of the the hard starting when hot. This has sucked a lot of time that could have been directed elsewhere.

Go in the house next time you feel the need to do that. You probably won’t get the weird looks from the neighbors anymore. I love my truck to but I go inside and do it while I’m looking out the window at my truck. The wife said she is tired of the neighbors calling so I just started going inside. :)

Ha Ha! It took me reading it twice to get it. I’m tired from flying across country and working through it. Yes I equated all the work of trouble shooting, replacing, tracing leaks, faulty senders, all work related to the IP, as jacking off.

Alright, hadn't used the truck in over a month. Had to put the new battery on passenger side on the charger. Ran the truck on an errand that was about 20 miles round trip. Shut it down when I got back and let it sit for 5 minutes. It started right up. Put a charger on batteries today and both were fully charged. Truck started right up, though starter still did the slow initial turnover before it caught.

So I'm due for the the Powermaster Starter install. Just need to get through the healing process on my foot. That is going fine as there is no pain whatsoever and I never needed the hydrocodone (Vicotin) pain meds. Just need the tendons to fully knit together and do the rehab.

Good to know You are getting it all sorted out Big T.
Now get healed up wouldjuh ? LOL
It is tough to keep a wild man down, I know. LOL

ugh,,,, I'm in need of a newer IP for mine. last summer, mine started to do the wont start,, and 1 bottle of water over the IP head, and Vrooom! fired right up. So I know I'm in need, but am really worried about doing all that work, and then still having issues. Not looking forward to spending all that loot on one, to have it be bad.
