Ground Issues?

My temp gauge isn't working. It worked before I installed the 3" body lift. My voltage gauge reads way too low, but it always did.(10v v.s. 14.2 measured at battery) My fuel gauge sometimes jumps around. My glowplug light does not come on, but never did. I think I have a ground issue but don't know where the factory grounds are under the dash. There is a stud on the firewall on the passenger's side with nothing on it, is that a ground point? I ran some new grounds too...firewall to passengers side battery, fender to passenger side battery, rad shroud to driver side battery...all connections are new and clean and tight. Side post stud mod done. I was thinking of adding a ground from the frame to the battery. Both batterys are grounded to the engine. I also added a 10ga wire from alt. to driver side battery and from the alt. to the power distribution stud. Also an 8ga from the power distribution stud to the driver side battery.

Thanks for any help,

Bill

Check to make sure you have 2 grounds near the back of the intake on the passenger side. There should be one on the back stud in the head that holds down the coolant blockoff plate. Is that the one youre talking about? That sometimes get left off and sits behind the engine or breaks off. There should also be one on one the rear intake bolts on that side.

That pair of wires on my truck were twisted up together about 5 inches and both mounted to the tranny disptick/coolant block off plate.

I looked and that pair of wired is attached to the engine. I haven't taken them off and cleaned them yet though. There is a braded non insulated ground wire there too, but it's broken. Where does that one attach?

Thanks,

Bill

IIRC it goes to the firewall. There should be one to the frame from back there too.

On my 94 the one that goes to the coolant blockoff plate stud is a pair of wires that goes to one ring terminal, and there there is another ring terminal with another wire. They could have moved one in 95 with the chaging of the fuse center.

At least you found a broken ground.

I got tired of the poorly routed ground strap that I changed over once already, and the new one burnt up again from being so close to the downpipe, so I took FAT gauge wire and made a new engine to Firewall, and made another that goes BLOCK TO FRAME but I went to the front tire wheelwell where the bolt holds the brake line on. I also went frame to BATT NEG of each battery same spot.

Chasing a stall few months back it was my ground strap again.......... NO stalls since, and very strong voltmeter readings.

Had same prob 2 years ago. I did the sam eto fix mine. I would think if two different guys came up with the same fix it ought to be a good one. ):h
