Got Slimed!

I don't see how this OPS hose grounds anywhere. If I have an OPS connected, that's the only connection I have. Do you have a pic of this ground? When I connect the OPS to its plug, my oil pressure guage works so is it self grounding?
Do you have my OPS hose?

I've had OK luck with Echlin when Delco wasn't readily available and I needed the truck to run.

It's official, I had another faulty OPS from SSD. The new NAPA Echlin brand did the job and kept my lift pump running with positive fuel pressure even after just now returning from a ~60 mile trip to fix up our rental property. Thanks everyone for all of the pointers and comments.

Highlights from my ordeal are as follows:
-Main cause of my troubles was my fuel tank getting slimed one way or another causing ~20-25 psi of vacuum.
-Using an air compressor on the line that feeds the lift pump was able to give me positive fuel pressure for a short while before becoming a vacuum again.
-Since I dropped the tank to clean the FSU filter sock and the fuel tank itself I figured why not install Leroy's OPS extension hose that I've had on the shelf for quite some time while the tank dried with the shop vac.
-I couldn't find my proper socket for the OPS removal so I figured since I had a spare OPS, I could afford to destroy it by pulling off the plastic and using a shorter socket to remove it.
-OPS extension hose installed along with the NEW OPS I received from SSD as a replacement to the original I bought from them from 4 years ago. Went ahead and replaced the lift pump with the spare SSD branded part that I also received as a replacement to the first faulty lift pump from SSD.
-Test drive revealed that the FPG was showing positive pressure only when the throttle was applied and then would drop to a vacuum. Seeing this during the test drive, I pulled into O'Reilly's for a new fuel filter. I needed it since I was due for one and there was slime on it anyway.
-Since I didn't tighten the fuel filter properly, air was getting into the fuel system and stalling the motor when left to idle.
-Properly tightened the new fuel filter but was still showing erratic fuel pressure.
-I decided to use a paperclip to jumper the OPS connection anytime I would drive anywhere. This pegged out my oil pressure guage but more importantly kept my lift pump running which was evident from the steady positive fuel pressure shown on the FPG.
-Test drove to my nearest NAPA for their Echlin brand OPS and installed the next day which revealed that the OPS I received from SSD as a replacement was another dud.
-So far, the replacemnt lift pump from SSD is working ok.
-Not taking any chances with SSD parts anymore and as soon as I receive an AC Delco OPS along with the AC Delco EP158 lift pump, they are going in.

Nice recap, Ive never seen anyone do that. Sure makes it easier than having to scroll all back through a thread to remember what was going on (thumbs up smiliey inserted here)

Imagine that! I'm trying to think of one thing I got there that lasted. Nope I cannot. Things have been better since I found this site and the good vendors here.

I like recapping what's been done. More for myself as I reflect on what has happened and hopefully it is useful to someone in the future. Thanks again everyone!

Here is a comparison of the cleaned up filter sock and what SSD sold me as their replacement:

This is a good justification to having a fuel pressure guage because I wouldn't have pinpointed the cause of the fishbitig I was experiencing without it. Thanks everyone for your previous posts on removing the fuel tank and blowing air into the lines!

Don't use the sock from SSD. That is a gasser sock and you will need to replace it again in a few weeks.

The part no for the diesel sock is ACDelco TS1012. It is available mostly online like RockAuto, Amazon, Ebay or stealership.

One thing though AFAIK a GM/Delco sock will not fit aftermarket FSU's. So if you have a Spetra FSU for example the sock wont fit.

Or better yet, Have Leroy make you a MRFSU and delete the sock. You will never need another sending unit again. Initial cost is a little more, but I was only getting 3 years out of Spectra units.

With all do respect, that GM design fuel level gauge is not much better than the toilet flusher design.

Even the design in the toilet flusher is better now!!!

I hope GM's design is much better with the newer vehicle.
But then, they put a cr***py stepper motor for their gauges in the cluster.
That becomes another business.
Never got it right !!!!
