Got Slimed!

I replaced the hose from tank to LP on mine. After that it would stumble and die randomly. Turned out to be the connection of the hose at the FSU. It was just slightly loose and did not pinch the oring. So air would get in and stall the engine. It was a weird problem because the connection was just loose enough that the fuel could actually create a seal around the oring, but if I hit a bump just right or called for for fuel to overcome the seal it would then leak and engine would die.

Long story short recheck your FSU connections and put new orings in there.

With slime...
Check the last ditch screen in the fuel filter manager as it will look like your tank sock. The tank lining can come off and plug things up. What did the last filter look like?

Bugs grow everywhere and can't be filtered. When and where they die determines what gets plug and rusted up. Did you throw the old fuel away? It's loaded with water and acid from the bugs.

Did you put a biocide in the tank?

Look for kinked hoses. Put a clear hose on the IP return - this will telly you if you have a restriction that vapor locks by boiling diesel in the fuel line with a vacuum before the IP or an air leak.

Last, the bad fuel with water, abrasive dead bugs, and acid just rusts everything up. It ruins lift pumps including Walbro's.

GM makes a fuel system cleaner you run from a 5 Gal jug. This may save your IP and injectors.

Well, decided to jump the OPS connector on my short drive to work which is only really less than a mile away from the house.

When I backed in to my parking spot, I noticed a trail of fuel. So, something must have gotten loose around the FFM area or I may not have installed the new fuel filter properly. So, this leads me to believe air was getting in like a few of you suggested since having a constantly running lift pump is the point and shouldn't have caused a rupture in any line on its own. I'll keep everyone updated

How old is the clear hose? I'd change that out because I think the heat is going to make it hard a brittle over time. I assume they go to FFM and return?
Looks like the one pin on OPS connector got hot too?

I do have a WVO system that is separate from the diesel tank underneath. It runs on valves which allows me to choose between the wvo system or the diesel tank system.

So, did more investigating since Internet services are spotty in the office today. Turns out I didn't get the fuel filter on tight enough. I'm at the range now checking on my Marines and didn't have to jumper the OPS connector to get here (about 2 miles from the office). Positive fuel pressure from what the FPG says but we'll see throughout the day.

I wouldn't rule that out.... Well did more driving and the fluctuating of the fuel pressure appeared again. No more stalling but I did notice that my fuel pressure would drop when I hit the brakes to stop (electrical issue?) So, I jumped the OPS connector again and so far no more drastic drops in fuel pressure.

Been driving around with the OPS connector jumped with no problems in fuel pressure. I was able to pass up the oreillys and the fuel station I visited last night and got to NAPA. they had no brocade but I did manage to pick up a new eichlin OPS. I'll try it out later after work.

Leroy, question on the OPS extension tube. Is it as simple as connecting the tube to where the OPS use to be and then placing a new OPS on the end of it or is there some sort of air bleeding procedure that I should do? I'm thinking it's as simple as that...

My friend has a 7.3 Excursion with a WVO system on it. When he shuts it off, the WVO system switches to diesel and keeps the truck running for 2 minutes so it flushes all the WVO out of the filters and engine. It also keeps WVO from getting back into the diesel tank. Does your system have anything like that?

Yes, my OPS connector looks like toast. About 2 OPS's ago (~4 years ago) I had replaced the OPS with an SSD replacement as a prevention but it melted down which is how I got a replacement from SSD which now 4 years later, I have on the end of the OPS extension tube.

Yes my WVO system has a purge function it's the golden fuel system from goldenfuelsystems.com. I've been running it for the last 4-5 years.

I don't see how this OPS hose grounds anywhere. If I have an OPS connected, that's the only connection I have. Do you have a pic of this ground? When I connect the OPS to its plug, my oil pressure guage works so is it self grounding?

No ground on the ops it will back feed through other things, whatever has the least resistance gauge cluster or lift pump. Factory the ground is through the threads to the block. I've chased the problem a couple times where someone used Teflon tape to seal for oil and blocked the electrical current.
