Hello everone i don't know what fuel soliond looks like on a 98 6.5 TD thERe for I can't it or change it. If someone could show me a pic and where it is that would be great thanks. Truck wouldn't start no diesel at the injections replace fsd didn't work. Any help is nice!

Hey Jake, welcome aboard. Take a few minutes to fill out your signarure (there's a link in mine that will help you) so we know what your truck is - list all and any modifications and be specific so we can 'see' your truck.

Next, go through the Diagnostic Checklist (also found in my signature) - copy it into a new post, answer the questions as well as you can (go and do the tests indicated, if you know how), to give us more information on your engine.

Trying to guess at solutions to your problem over the internet won't help get you running... we need to "see, feel and hear" your truck, and the checklist hslps us do that.

You say you replaced the fsd... I'd also like some more specific details on that, please.

Jim

Thanks for repling Jim. I got a new fsd with the extended wire toke off upper intake unpluged the old one pluged the new one in put everthing back together tryed staring it up nothing. Before it stalled out on me I'd a few minutes than it would start. I drove it home parked it now it doesn't start. When I turn the key on I hear the lift pump toke the fuel filter off with the key on and the fuel was pumping out but that as far as it when. Thank!

The fuel solenoind is in the Injection pump (IP), not replaceable, would have to replace the $500 or more IP and the right tools to do it, and the know how.

Where is it that you checked the fuel? At the IP?

Could try pulling of the Fuel Shutoff Solenoid and checking it, maybe thats what you meant. It spins off the top of the IP, if a metal cylinder about 3 inches tall with two wires to it. Spin it off and put 12V to it, see if the plunger moves up. If not then you can get a snap ring pliers and pull the plunger out and put it back in the truck and see if it runs, and replace the solenoid later.

Thanks buddy that's what I was looking for can I test it without taking it of? And how do I check if I have fuel at the IP? Thanks!

You can try and feel if the shutoff solenoid clicks when you turn ign on. Its not hard to remove and replace though, quite simple.

I take it you already know how to power the LP with the truck off, the test port by your fuse/realy center. And you have fuel spirting out at the fuel filter, which can be seen just by opening the valve on top of it and running LP. So you could just pull IP fuel intake hose off and see that fuel is being pushed to there. The inlet is the one pointing straight up to the right of the shutoff solenoid.

And when you said no fuel to the injectors, does that mean you loosened an injector line and cranked and got nothing?

If you havent tried already, plugging the new FSD in without the long extension harness.

I have an engine shutoff sol for sale if you end up needing one. PM me although I don't think that is your problem. Check the fuse for the ecm.

Very good point Aces, something the checklist would have answered, do you get the SES light and the WTS/GP light with key on? If not ECM fuse probably blown.

Fuel Solenoid or F/Sol fuse would also cause that.

Thanks guys I all so forget to add that my aux fuse blew as well witch I replaced and all my other fuses are good!

I saw a guy change an IP because of a blown Ecm fuse which probably blew due to really ugly battery connections and grounds. Imagine the look on his face when I put a fuse in it and it started right up.
Priceless...

Who's FSD kit did you use ? Did you leave the ground wire on the IP ? Also did you pull apart both connections on the extension cable to make sure you didn't bend one of the connector pins(I know from experience)

Yes I left the ground cable on the IP! No I didn't check if any pins got bent, does the new fsd need to be grounded? The make as of right now I don't know the truck is at my other farm. Thanks for all the help everone when I have more Internet time I will fill out my user panel stuff on jims page!

Sorry everone I'm on my blackberry and I don't know how to copy and paste the check list! Gp on for about 15 seconds, no mods, fast crank, little to no black smoke only when you step on it hard, clean battery cables, any more q let me know. Thanks

Ok everone this is what I did today. The new fsd with extended harness is a d-tech. Ok there is power at the fss hearded it click when the key was turn on , unplugged it unscrewed it 13mm pluged it back in turned the key on and the plunger moved back and forth and fuel was coming out of the hole where the fss gets screwed back into on top of the IP with the key on. Toke off the rubber hose on top of IP on the left side the one that is straight up and down fuel was coming out , took off the one on the other side off IP slanted one fuel was coming out as well. Then I followed the line down to the injectors

Sorry! Then I followed the line down to the injectors took off one of the rubber lines that loop in between the injectors took off the front one cranked the engine over fuel was spraying out, overall all the points I opened up the fuel pressure was very weak wish I had a gauge , anyway open up an injector line crancked the engine over no fuel was coming out', so I'm thinking IP or is there something else I can test? Thanks again everone!

Fuses can be good but not making a connection, pull the ECM fuse and shine the spades up with emery cloth or a wire brush. I've had that problem before
