Front Bumper

I aint got no guages on the pillar of mine, or a 6.5 under the hood. Up until this week I didn't even have the air deflectors in there for them. I guess mines a pus** too:eek::hihi:.

being a little sensitive aren't we? Youre in the diesel forum, do you also take offesne to "real trucks don't have spark plugs"? Since you dont have a real truck then, just some fake truck I guess.

You can't tell me when you see a GM towing a trailer you don't look in the cab for pillar gauges and at the front bumper for two holes on the side of the license plate. Then when you realize its not a diesel mumble under your breath "puss**"

Honestly, I take quite a bit of offense to that statement. While I may not be fortunate enough to own a 6.5L or other diesel truck (which I honestly am looking into getting by the end of the year), I can assure you my truck is anything far from "puss*." I have spent quite a bit of time giving my own input where I can on this forum, and seriously it brings me great displeasure to hear another member say something like that. I do a literal ton of things with my truck. It's a DD, offroading toy, hunting rig and tow vehicle.

I have a TD bumper on my truck, and since it's a gas motor installed some spotlights into the intake openings. It's also a much better place to run/store the block heater cord (it's where mine is at).

Maybe you are just a little too busy touting your expertise in your preferred area of the forum to have noticed that David happens to be one of our members that has provided some of the best technical information this site has seen in several areas.
The original premise of our little corner of the internet includes a welcome to ALL brands and types of trucks.
Along with David, and I would suspect many other members, I don't appreciate the snotty response either Buddy.
Mike

I just didn't appreciate the piling on since David already said he took offense. Sorry if I went off harshly but I have alot of appreciation for our members, including you Buddy...

Back to your regularly scheduled 6.5 bumper observations. I usually look for the ones with holes and give a wave myself if they are there...

Thank you for looking out for us. I just believe in general, people airing out personal shit publically is a good way make it stink in here. There are a lot of people on this forum, we are currently in a diesel forum, that rag on other brand diesels, and all forms of gassers. Its in jest, nothing personal, we all probably have a gas vehicle we also drive, or the wife or kids, ect.... Youre not going to hurt my feelings if for example went to the 6.5 camaro thread and posted something like its too bad only women and sissy's drive Camaros. I own a Camaro, its in my Avatar, many people with Fords will bash them. I don't think Cody would take it personally either, but you might get a nasty retort, and if he was offended he would PM you, tell me how I know, because he is cool like that. And we have 6.5s, which are the brunt of plenty of harassment about power and broken down trucks that don't start.

I appreciate the help that everyone provides to this forum, I was just trying to liven things up a bit. Never thought I would hurt any ones feelings.

But like Buddy said 6.5s are the brunt of lots of jokes and we should not take offence to them.

On a side note David (88GMCtruck) your truck looks bad a$$. I love that frontend with the light configuration. Do you have the four fog lights on the headlight switch or are they on different switches?

Colby

I have not completed it, so I guess you could say I am still working on my air intake setup. My intention was as you say, to relocate the battery(ies), which is most of the work that has kept me from working on it. The air filter I was just going to have right behind the headlights as low as it can go after removing the battery tray. Maybe later enclosing it if IATs or EGTs are an issue. I notice a lot of fanwash is in that direction, so at least blocking/deflecting fan air would be appropriate even if I don't enclose it totally. Enclosing the filter as much as possible may be beneficial to create a positive pressure in the area from air pushing in at high speeds. The primary path for air would still be through the bumper hole, and some through the headlight area. Blocking the hole may be OK if you open up another path on the front grill area or up from below the bumper somehow.

I was at Banks Engineering the other day and was looking at their cold air kits aka "Ram Air" and it looks like the drop down unit on the system that has the scoop under bumper might fit up through the hole where the passenger battery makes it current home.

I will be returning a few things to them sometime and will take some measurements of the units they have on display.

Geez, get home from a week on the road, click on the DTR 6.5 Forum and it's like the remote got stuck on The View.:nopity:

must be clear

Footholds.

Fog light locatons...

Yeah yeah that's it.

:rolleyes5:

No no, not poking at any gasser, never will I. You have an awesome truck, period.

I was coming from the angle of guys that own the 6.5's and totally ignore some of the finer points that GM designed into these trucks to make them live happily.

When I see dress up garbage on the grille and lights stuffed into the nostrils of a vehicle that BEGS for more air, (6.5) I think, 'poor truck'.

I've seen 6.5 owners let 'body shops' replace the diesel bumper with the normal bumper to save a buck. Hello?

While I don't quite like that saying, i do understand that it is just that, a common saying. The original comment that i took offence to was more of a statement/observation, which I felt was unnecessary.

Thanks Mike. I enjoy sharing my random projects and upgrades with everyone. And I agree, this site is great because it is welcoming of every type of truck.

Buddy, I agree with you that people airing out personal things publicly isn't usually a good idea, however that really wasn't my intent. I honestly brought it up as a way to discourage future comments similar to this. I have found that this is one of the few forums that has a no BS attitude which I love, and feel that discouraging that behavior in a constructive calm way is necessary to keep it that way. I do understand that this forum is primarily visited by diesel pickup owners, however they are not the entirety of our members. In any forum I visit, I always try to be positive and constructive with any comment I make, and I feel that is how we should treat eachother.

I appreciate the help that everyone provides to this forum, I was just trying to liven things up a bit. Never thought I would hurt any ones feelings.

Colby, no hard feelings man. I know that 6.5L have a bad rep, but still it doesn't help anyone to poke fun of a particular group. As much as I don't care for import cars, I also don't poke fun of them because there are some people who DD them or can't afford anything else.

On the subject of my lighting setup, I have an 8-hi setup. My headlights are on the stock switch, the bumper spotlights and foglights are each separately switched via toggles under the headlight switch, however even if they aren't switched on, the automatically trigger with my highbeams for the full 8-hi.

If your interested in reading more about my lighting setup. My headlights are actually Bosch made GM T84 Export H4 lights. The outer lights are a true high and low beam while the inside ones are a high only. Also, my entire lighting setup is now HID.

Well, chances are it will be one day.

---------------------------------------------------

Anyway, every GMT400 I see going down the road I do look for the diesel bumper, amongst other things such as determining they year, trim level and payload. From a distance I can get years correct within a few, however I can get really darn close if I can actually walk around the truck and see inside it. There are lots of subtle changes throughout the years. But when I see a diesel bumper, I usually crack the window of my truck so I can hear it.

To one of the original query's cooling flow and a winch, I have a front platform on mine and carry a portable generator up front. Never had cooling issues in the height of summer. So as Kenny said a winch is no problem.

To be honest I find this whole ragging on other peoples ride thing just gets tedious whether tongue in cheek or not. Whatever makes you happy is good enough for me. I own a Citroen DS Station Wagon which being French etc comes in for some flack and after a while it just as I already said gets tedious. Although I am still waiting for the one with the Hemi to rag on the Citroen so I can point out that it has a Hemi too, someday!

Cheers
Nobby

Well as a diverse group of people we may offend someone sometimes, some of us are less sensitive, less politically correct, and sense of humors and opinions are different and what one may find funny others may not.

As far as a little innocent ragging on someones ride, let he who has never done this cast the first stone. Is there one person anywhere that has said all trucks are equal.
Or all jobs a great, or all forms of racing are the same. All women are attractive. NO, WE ALL HAVE AN INDEPENDENT OPINON.

Get this straight, and if it offends you well then go see a therapist you [jackwagon] in reference to a commercial in case you haven't seen it with R Lee Ermy . We are all individuals with not like minded thinking, and if you all want politically correct crap like minded thinking then we have lost what makes this country great. We should be able to speak our minds as long as we respect each other.

If everyone is afraid of being singled out and controls every word that is typed or every thought that might be scoffed at you have taken away someones individuality to share their thoughts and ideas and stories.

I agree that there should be no outright insults against anyone, but come on now take the humor for what it is.

Say,someone had the balls to say this, I own a Citroen DS Station Wagon which being French etc comes in for some flack.

I would say that's to bad you couldn't find a real car. As a frenchman I feel your pain, If I wanted to jest with him.

I own a 1963 Rambler 660 cross country station wagon. Even have a pic of it on here in the garage area I think, because I can't figure out how to change it.

Go ahead and rag on me/it I don't give a crap. I'm man enough to admit that I suck at computers, but I can kick some IT guys ass in welding or auto repair or construction or whatever and him likewise. The fact is we all have /do what interests us as individuals, but share a common bond here in one way or another, our trucks/friendships that have been made/built with each other. We all have our strengths/weaknesses/amount of knowlegde in life/career, and emotional levels/differences.

The point is I'm different, your different, and if I have to be sensitive to saying something like, I hate dodges because you or someone on the board has one or loves one than Joseph Stalin has won. I have the freedom of speech and my opionins, as do you, and as long as we respect each other we should be able to poke fun and jest without fear of reprisal. If your to senisitive to see that, I make no aplologies and neither should anyone else.

Now if I say I hate joe blow, /s dodge, thats a direct attack and unacceptable, I respect that one mans treasure is another mans junk and vice versa.

Who here thinks the Dmax owners think that 6.5 trucks are better than their Dmax trucks. They will be the first to say eventually you will own one when/if you are willing to shell out the money or take on the 700.00 month payments.

Everyone needs to take these comments with a grain of salt. And put the pride aside. I'm not stirring the pot, just pointing out that I'm not pollitically correct and make no appoligies for it.

When I read some of bisons posts I could be offended or laugh my a$$ off, it all depends what side of the fence your on. I only use you Simon as an example as your perfect in that, you speak and let the chips fall where they may kinda guy. You know, honest with your feelings and opinions. I respect a man who stands up and speaks his mind.

BTW nobby, you want to race your Citroen wagon against my wifes rambler wagon. I BET HER AMERICAN POS WILL BEAT YOUR FRENCH POS. LOL

This post is in response to all the overly sensitive posts lately, not just nobby.

I think we all should accept each others differences and be thankful that we are all different. How boring would it be if we all spoke and thought the same.

LET"S ALL GET ALONG AND QUIT THE SISSY BICKERING. [ Back to the regularly scheduled program]
