Free ANTI VIRUS?

I use Norton myself but it's not free but worth it.

LOL ... I spent yesterday stripping a totally-unused Norton OFF of 4 brand-new laptops for family members! 2 went with Avast, 2 went with MSE.

Norton and McAfee are like installing your own virus.

Just say "NO" to Resource Hogs!

I work for our college IT department, and we recommend and install Microsoft Security Essentials. I personally also like avast, however dislike it's interface.

the only time I've ever gotten viruses is when I was using Norton. They were picked up through reading news links off of Yahoo's home page. I ran AVG for a number of years w/ no viruses. Have Security Essentials on the desktop and Avira on my laptops.

You're not kidding!

Whenever I uninstall Norton, it seems like I'm hours chasing down it's "remnants".

That thing is like a cancer, it gets into everything......

Jim & BJ, you guys ever try "Revo Uninstaller"?

It searches for remnants the regular uninstaller leaves behind. I don't know how thorough it is though.

WEll I installed AVAST and the noscript program. AVG was a PITA to get rid of. I couldn't believe how many footprints it leaves in different places all over a PC.

I tried it on mcafee... Wasn't bad, but I still needed to edit the registry for an hour I'll never get back...

I heard it is good on Norton, though.

I always use it but never search the registry to see if it got everything, I'm not that patient or proficient.
