First thing I should do to my 6.5 for preventive maintenance?

As you may know I had a 7.3 PSD I sold and bought a 6.5. I want to keep this truck for a long time as my daily driver and to tow a bass boat once in awhile and maybe hit the trails because who doesn't love to. I was wondering what are some things I should do to the motor for preventive maintenance and to keep her running healthy for years to come. The truck has 200k and I have every maintenance file for the truck. I already changed the oil as soon as I bought it because I had a feeling it was way to thin to be 15w 40w.
Has pmd relocation but not mounted in correct spot. What are some other things I can do?

Also looking for a sight to get a gift card to for xmas for truck parts what are some good places to get grilles and some aftermarket parts?
 
Lift pump, harmonic balancer, as any diesel 2cycle oil in your diesel, as diesel these days is to dry no lubrication, Lmc trucks sells replacement parts along with extras like shaker hoods, grills, ect. Spend time reading post in here. I've learned so much here everyone is more than helpful. I put horn button to siloniod to glow plugs to help cold starts, up sized my battery cables, and often check both battery's with draw text one bad battery will cause hard start and burn up starters which run about 300, also tons of useful tips and hints read on
 
Check our supporting vendors as well. Leroydiesel and Raceday mechanic have a lot of good innovative parts for our trucks. Don't forget Rockauto for other things, and there is a thread in the dealfinder for the latest discount code.
 
How is the front end? Energy suspension makes poly bushings that help the front end over rubber.

OK what is a good harmonic balancer to put on the truck I seen the one on Leroy diesel but it's way out of my budget especially because I need to put tires on my truck first. Also I run Power service in my truck I ran that in my powerstroke also. What are your opinions of power service vs 2stroke oil?

Yea I was looking for aftermarket dress up pieces since my grille is a gmc front clip on a chevy because the previous owner swapped the fenders over from a gmc and I guess swapped the grille also.
OK thanks and I also heard about some OPS mod that I should do to the Oil pressure sensor because there known to fail?
 
Post #4. Going through those will get you 90% of the way there, like the ops mod.

On the HB, The AC Delco is good for 100,000 miles. the knock offs can fail in less than 30,000 miles. Loose the HB and you will break the crank, and that usually takes out the block with it. The Pricey one at Leroy's is a forever part. I Am hoping to afford one soon, my time is a coming again for another Delco.

One of the free items is the ground issue. Remove and clean all the engine grounds. You will need a spare pmd. It is like a spare tire for the truck, just cuss now then buy it and keep it in the glove box. When your truck starts acting wacky that's first place to go.

The only proper way to use starting fluid on these engines is to point the can at your fuel tank, spray, then light a match. Never in the engine for starting purposes.

Before you buy any parts, anywhere, run it through here. These folks will keep you from wasting $ on things or from people like we did.

My 2 cents would be leave the rest of the body alone until you have some time on the crucial parts.

Your question of the HB is to choose Fluid Dampener.

When I get a new vehicle I prioritize 'improvements' by Safety, Preventative Maint. and then Performance/Bling.

1. Safety (Brakes, Steering, Suspension, Tires etc.), Headllights (polish the old lenses or replace the units), Tail lights as the OEM units, when old, aren't the most visible,
2. Preventative Maint. Run through the "Diagnostic Checklist" and become one with your truck's current condition. Fluids: Oil, Transmission, Coolant. Inspect/replace OPS, Lift Pump, PMD relocation, Harmonic Balancer and the pulley since you've got it off (oil seal too), Oil Lines, block heater, glow plugs, injectors (how old?), Grounds Grounds Grounds, clean the radiator stack, etc P.M. Upgrades: Gauges; 4" Exhaust; K-47 or other upgraded Air Intake (personal opinion-stay away from K&N unless you're in the market for a new turbo soon); Water Pump; Fan; Fan clutch;
3. Performance and Bling: Tune and whatever else you want to do...whatever your heart desires and wallet supports.

The important thing is to prioritize and plan things out from a work and finance standpoint. Save time by not having to take stuff apart twice, Save your wallet by staying out of debt. Lots of people here willing to help you find ways to do both.

If you replace the lift pump with an OEM style lift pump, use only ans AC Delco or GM for a 1993. All the aftermarkets have a less than stellar reputation for performance and longevity.

Use only AC Delco or Stewart - check my posts - thermostats. I have never replaced a Stewart on any of the vehicles that I installed them in. Again the aftermarkets have not performed or lasted.

Check you engine oil cooler lines - these can kill your engine faster than anything. If they are leaking, replace them.

Check the front of your starter to make sure it has the starter brace. If it does not have the brace, seriously avoid starting the truck without it.

I know of one instance where a block was ruined with one hit of the key.

Oil cooler lines, starter brace, harmonic balancer would be the first places I would start. If any of these go south, they can busta your good humor.

Ok sounds good to me and a new starter was just installed before I bought the truck but the guy I bough it from said that the 4L80e access cover has always been missing so I need one of them because I don't have a dust cover on my flywheel/torque convertor.
Ok so my first quest will be tires, harmonic balancer and oil cooler lines and I just spent $50 on a stock airbox a few weeks ago because there was just a k&n cone filter and I know from owning a psd that's a big no.
Where are some good places to pick up a harmonic balancer and oil cooler lines I know what santa is getting me for Christmas oil cooler lines and a balancer lol.
 
Did you make sure you have the front brace on the starter? Extremely important. Any start without the brace is a lucky start. Some people get llucky a lot, Some people do not even get lucky once.

I really like our Firestone Transforce AT's 265/75R16 Load range E 10 ply tires. I have them on 2 vehicles now and probably more to come. They are holding up very well

Ok thank you and yea I'm searching for tires at the moment I currently have 35's on the truck and I could care less it actually seems like to much tire for the truck. I'll check out the firestone ones I was thinking about getting cooper at3s pepboys is having there tire deal and the guy told me it would be around 530 plus tax for the buy3 get one free.
Also on rock auto I see two ac delco ones for the 95 one part number is Part # 12557345 the other one is # 10154688 is the one just a better build quality than the other one?

I've been wondering about the probond HBs they also make one to compete with the fluid dampner and about the same money
 
You have a Harmonic damper and a separate rubber "damper" for the belt drive. So there are two rubber failure points on the front of the engine. And that is why 2 part numbers.

When pricing tires get the price out the door. Unless you are picking the tires up and doing the mounting and balancing yourself. Always get the price for the amount you will be paying before you walk out the door. Also check tread depth when buying tires. Some cheaper tires do not have as much tread to begin with.

I only run Load range E 10 ply tires. The couple of times I ran load range D tires they wore on the outsides like they were under inflated.
