Few updated pics of my Ride ( for Unit453)

Lookin good. I've always loved those cars, and I love white too. Very clean with low miles, that's about impossible to find around here anymore. If they did exist within the past 10 years, the brothers have already destroyed them by now.

Hit that one on the head! I dont know hom many nice cars have been ruined with lift kits and 24 '' + rims!:shiiiiiite:

Still looks like a cop car. I didn't like sittin' in the back, not fun. Needs a push bar, that would really freak me out! Looks good though, my buddy has a black one.(car that is) It scoots around pretty good too, not quite as good as my 68 chevy II though, unless there is a few curves. Then his boat walks all over me.

I wouldnt worry about the cam just yet...I'd put a set of gears in that and maybe some Edelbrock headers...Those headers made a HUGE difference....

Also...Once you re gear...

Your shift points are gonna be all off and wacky...Might wanna think about a programmer that will allow you to change shift points and shift rpm's and all that.

You swap in a set of 3:42's and the top end is gonna be around 130 vs mid 140 range stock. You swap in 3:73's and you can kiss your mileage good by but you'll be able to paint all the rubber you want...Wherever you want and you'll end up outrunning 95% of traffic on the road...

Nick, what do reccomend for gearing?, Ive got 2.93 now. Performance isnt bad surprizingly, and MPG is great. I Wanted 3.73's at first but now with fuel being high and fear of losing top end im thinking 3.42 .

Ive got PCM4Less tuning so changes arent a prob .:smile5:

So for a guy who wants it all what should gear should i do?

3:42's. Thats what I had and trust me, thats plenty of low end beans to get moving...Any more and you'll be a stoplight to stoplight ranger and running 3 grand at 75. IIRC, I ran around 21 or 2200 rpms at 70ish with 3:42's.

My headlights are clear ? But if you mean clear corner lenses yes, those are on my list. But im itching to cam and gear it next.

I couldnt find the clear ones i was thinking. Guess thats as clear as they get.

Thanks for the advice Nick, that's exactly what i wanted to hear. You the man.

I agree 3:42's should be good, your tranny has a real low first gear ratio, so low rear gears aren't nec. And the LT1 engine isn't set up to run real high rpm's. They have a very strong mid range. The TPI will run out of breath up top.

I would think about putting in a converter at some point too. It made a huge difference with mine. I ran a B&M 2800 stall. Any GM S-10 pickup runs a 2500 stall and is actually a very common swap to put in GM B-Bodies. They're cheap too.

Yep, im going to do a converter and a transGo shift kit. Thanks for the tip on the s-10 stall.

A little clarifcation on the LT1 and the TPI .
The TPI has the long runners Very conductive to low to mid RPM torque./Runs out of steam around 4800RPM

The LT1 has very short intake runners great for mid and top end torque, but still has a lot of grunt on the bottom. Although im not claiming these to run at 7000 or above either, but a better step up from the Long runner TPI of old.

Both engines are an another GM Engineering marvel, and both can be made to perform better with few mods.

I agree you can make them run better, but only to a point. They are a great motor, but they are designed to operate at lower rpm's. The TPI just is not capable of moving enough air to support high rpm power. That is why they run so good having such high rearend gearing. LT1's are made for there mid range power. Ithink they start to run out of breath at like 5000 rpm or even lower. They are still worlds better than the crappy TBI.

Ditto on the 3.42s. Also, with 3.73s there is a slight chance that you will suffer from drive shaft vibration, and I believe that GM discontinued the reluctor, you will have to find a custom one to keep the ABS happy. If you drive a 1/4 mile at a time then 3.73s are where it's at, but for an everyday driver, 3.42s are the deal....in my opinion of course.

Side note: My 96 LT1 finally gave up the ghost. It is now getting a Jasper reman. installed as we type. Good for another 148,000 miles....:D
