I got 4 6.5 that I believe all run 3 for sure and about 3 or 4 6.2 1 complete that I believe instead of a rod knocking that it was the flex plate and the rest in various stages of parts.

iv got one that is being rebuilt, on that is in a truck and i think will run again (got to do a compresion test), one that runs but has a brokin starter bolt hole, and on that is destined for the scrap yard with a nasty main web crack that makes 4 and id like to pic up one more

1 6.2 that will run and 1 6.5 that grenaded and I won't know for sure until later in the week exactly what happened.

What do you do, change engines when glow plug goes out? :smile5:

That is more true than you think. Break the old ones and you could wind up changing an engine after it eats the chunks of plug. I had a 88 6.2 do that to me. Ran 50K with glow plugs impacted in the pistons...

But it makes the job easy having the engine out to get to the plugs! Ask me how I know... ):h

15 -6.2s 1 that positively runs[came out of my 91]1 is a new rebuilt long block
11- 6.5s 3 that positively run 3 ready to run 5 parts engines only 1 that could possibly be rebuilt

All for less money than one Duramax Truck.

I only have the one. :(

We are up to 4 6.5's and one 6.2. Yet i still find myself searching the internet and papers for another "needs injection pump" or "truck stalls"

And just for the record, Ive always had a soft spot for these engines, but you guys really fuel the addiction. This damn forum is like the opposite of AA.

that statement made me laugh! thanks for that!

You say that like its a bad thing?

We get together more than any AA groub I know of, 24/7.

Oh its not a bad thing at all. I cant really talk to anyone else about the older gm diesels. No one wants to hear anything unless it is dmax related, and everyone thinks ive got a few screws loose for wanting to rebuild my 95 with 230k on the clock.

So just remember....we are all in this boat together. We will make it

Damn sure you have a few screws and other parts loose at 230K! ):h Better get on it and tighten em down...

HAR !

Dude, that's like having only one leg :smile5:

Biggest laugh I've had on this board in quite a while, and that's saying something !!

Thanks Bison, hope you have a great day!

And now to ask the obvious question... ummm, what do you have in mind for all those motors, bk95? Refurb and sale? BK's House O' Diesel? Free short blocks for all your friends? <hint, hint>

Hey Dude,i hear that flak all the time about the 6.2/6.5 from the Ferd, cummins and Dmax drivers.
Huh,you still drive these dinosaurs, why dont ye get a real diesel?

I just tell them, My trucks are paid for, they get me where i wanna go and back on fumes, are easy and cheap to fix,and i dont need a ladder to get in or out of the cab,box or engine bay.
And you,you enjoy the payments and the dealer repair bills):h

I couldn't agree more. I bought my d-max 4 years ago and I'm still paying for it. I have to admit, probably one of the worst decisions I have made. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the truck and it has been flawless since I've bought it, but I never should have spent that much money on a truck. I'm looking to put a down payment on a house now and all I can think of is how much money I could have saved by just driving my old 96'. I've thought of selling the truck, but at this point in time I might as well just hold on to it for a long time. I'm not gonna regain enough cash to make it worth while.

One of my main reasonings of buying the new truck was reliability. But having said that, I can't think of a better word to describe my 95' diesel. I've been driving it everyday for over a year now and it has yet to leave me stranded anywhere. Keep up with pm maintnence and these trucks will serve you well. All for a cost way less than a new truck. They can't be compared to the current powerhouse diesels out there, but their simplicity and cost to own can't
be beat.

Extremely well put, my thoughts exactly!

these things are dirt cheap, can be made very reliable, and the body and chassis, IMHO, are one of the best.

My whole reason for getting into these 6.2-6.5 trucks is the crazy price of duramax's and the crazy price to repair them. I refused to pay over $15000 for a truck with near 200,000 miles.
I didn't start out wanting 6 trucks,it just kinda snowballed because they were so cheap for a nice body with a blown engine. I will have all 6 truck running with good used or rebuilt engines for much less than a used duramax with 200,000 miles. Not shure at this point which trucks will be sold. I believe there is still enough of these trucks around and people willing to fix them that a engine referbishing business could do well. Many sellers on e-gay doing this exact thing.
Even with the economy in the toilet, the newer powerhouse trucks are bringing crazy money. The bad economy also keeps people fixing the dinasours. I like driving the underdog.I drove a olds diesel to 370,000 miles.
