I gotta agree and awesome numbers for a 6.5 turbo. I have seen a few of your YouTube videos of the truck and I always knew the 6.5 had potential! That is sweet that it's making it just on fuel too and looking forward to hearing and learning more about what you've got done to it.

I'm also impressed, makes me want to build a 6.5 powered S10 or car for drag racing.

Looking out some of those videos you are using all that extra fuel also that's awesome. Unless you have a high flow DPF hidden in there somewhere and I highly doubt that :D . For me power wise it's as much about the efficiency as it is how much power you can get. Sure you may get more power down but if you are still dumping fuel out the back, well it may look good but your are not really running at the optimum. Sure there is a trade off but looking at your truck it can be done.

I am a bit of a steam engine freak and I have a handbook from the 40's or so for engineers/fireman of steam locomotives one of the chapters is on being clean burning and efficiency. The first page of the chapter has a great cartoon picture of a steam locomotive exhausting black smoke and out of the stack with that smoke are flying all these bank notes with wings.

You hit nail on head grasshopper. I dislike lots of black smoke, when the engine is running at WOT and the turbo is fully spooled, I'm expecting nothing more than a light haze. Other than that I've got too much fuel for air.

A little at a time does it. Many tracks I've raced at I have had onlookers that have found me at the pits, still having to ask the question "is that a Diesel" ):h

Turn up the fuel, change the injectors, adjust the wastegate on the turbo, watch the EGT gauge.

Turn up the fuel, change the injectors, swap the turbine housing on the turbo, then adjust the wastegate, watch the EGT gauge.

Turn up the fuel on the fuel curve with governor, swap the turbocharger out for something larger.

Tune for smoke (the stack through the hood was key for this, that's in the past now), tune for safe EGT's.

Now I'm at the limit of safe boost, going to have to beef up the valve springs to account for the exhaust back pressure of the turbo and the intake pressure of the charge air. Or, add NOS... Blue bottle sitting in the bed as I write (nice trade).

That is a great article. My brother in-laws (3 of them) told me I was crazy for buying a 6.5L and told me I was even crazier saying I know there is a 6.5 that runs 13's. I have the aricle printed out and ready to mail to them!):h

Keep up the good work!
