Duramax Fan p/n 15010202

Shoot, I only have about an 1/8" of clearance on mine all the way around. And it has yet to bump even with the DMAX twisting it up there.

I wasn't sure how the plastic blades would take the rub, so with 1/16th of an inch, trim was in order.

Anyone have any ideas about the vibration change?

Why smoother now at 580 idle, but roughest at 1100. It use to be the other way around. I wont even use 1100 its that noticeable. Before I use to use 1100 to smoooth out the idle vibration.

All I know is allt his vibration has me geeked out worried about my HB. Fluidampr getting ordered up Friday.

Could there be shaft wobble from a waterpump with almost 140k on it?

Thanks Kenny,

Does the book give any details, as to when it engauges? (sp)

Also of note is to make sure it does engage earlier. It may just lockup at a higher % of shaft speed without engaging earlier.

Unless the company who made them frequents these 6.5 forums to know that 210 and above is danger zone, it probably engages too hot for comfort. Thus why Kennedy has is own special calibration one, vs just buying a severe duty.

Regardless, the Fan Clutch Mod is easy enough to do so controlling engagement temp really isn't an issue.

Hey finally got to look up the clutch. My Hayen Book shows a 2831 as the Severe Duty Clutch for the 4 bolt 6.5 rev rot . That # should cross directly to NAPA.

The whole point of this thread is to get rid of the stock fan with the 6 bolts and get a better 9 blade steel or 'suck the birds off the road in front of you' Duramax fan. That number looks like a old 6 bolt fan setup...

The 170 degree turn on temp and lower than stock lock up temps help with AC performance on gassers. I have experienced this myself. Diesel I can't say.

From their site:

"Engages at about 170° radiator air temperature, (about 30° lower than coolant temperature). "

"Some Chevrolet/GMC truck models are specifically designed to engage at lower temperatures than the original equipment parts that they replace. "

I am buying a duramax fan on a new 6.5 clutch. The guys owns a shop called diesel power plus. This is off of his personal truck that he is doing cummin swap in. He said the clutch kicks in ~195 he bought it from and aftermarket vendor won't say a name. Could it just be a 6.5 clutch w/ a mod?

That part # is bringing up this.- 1994-96 On Rock Auto.

Maybe a P/N 2839 4 bolt fan?

I gotta get Bill's email or Pepps again. I'll email them the catalog and then maybe they can post it. I can't post it. Catalog has all the dimensions .

been wanting to do the fan clutch mod, want to do it this season before towing the camper. think I should try it with my stock fan first, or do the dmax fan at the same time? I'm also thinking about doing the hb, as it's never been done. Maybe I should do them all at once, make a day of it?

Defanitely try it with your stock clutch. It may save you moneys. I would recommend the Dmax fan, as it may change the real world turn on temp due to the fact that it pulls more air through the radiator. It might make no difference on the highway, but it probably will with the plow on as it blocks the airflow, the fan being the only source of air pulling through.

I'm curious if my setting will engage too early now when I'm plowed up. However, if temps dropped fast with the stock fan, I can only imaging how fast it will drop with this bad boy.

And yes, it bolts right up to the 4 bolt stock clutch. Like a champ.

Nice link. As I thought the Normal/Heavy/Severe duty don't engage any earlier than the others. ONLY % of shaft speed engagement. (Which is great) ... as long as it engages before or at 210.

Whether or not its earlier than GM stock specs.. I have no idea. But there is a reason why Kennedy has his 'special batch' made.

Did the mod today, easy-peezy. Only took about 45 minutes. 5 minutes was looking for the nut I dropped, and 20 was washing the black filth off my arms. What a filthy pig. Gotta buy some degreaser and give the old hoss a scrubbin'. Won't know if it worked until it gets hot out and I pull the camper up a mountain. otherwise it runs at 160 all day long. I can't actually remember what I put in for t-stats, it's been so long now. I guess I would have asked for stock replacements.

Would have done the fan clutch mod today if I could find my fancy wrench to hold the hub. Last I remember my 4 y.o. had a hold of it. No telling where it is now.

I used a not so fancy screwdriver behind the studs. My 5 & 6 year old took my jack, jacked up a battery-operated Jeep and crawled under it with some of my tools. Not sure what they were trying to fix, but they like to do that when I'm working on my truck.

That is so funny. My 4yr old does excatly the same thing. I bought him one of the 20$ Jap Jacks to play with cause he was gonna get hurt trying to move my 3 ton lincoln around.

LOL, I can picture him Kenny! :)

My 3 year old walked out of the hardware store with me, (I went to get some SS Hardware for my mirror mod :) ) and half way home she opens her hand and says

"Here Daddy-Bird, for your truck" :nono:

Handful of of SS Washers and lock washers...

Trying to help. And she didn't learn that from me, I always bag my parts.

Had to have a talk :)... Funny thing is, a few of those washers came in real handy as the project progressed, but I didn't let her know :)
