Periodically experiencing misfire or fish bite under acceleration. Typically happens after sitting and idling for a bit and only under acceleration at lower, under 40 mph, speeds. Used the GM Tech 2 to pull codes and had P0272 Cylinder 4 balance. This has been going on since I changed the injectors nearly 2 years ago. Injectors were purchased from Leroy and installed without testing.

What is going on?

Sounds like I need to replace the injector. Is this on the rear passenger side?IMG_4327.jpeg

Wanna guess where my money is bet on for this problem?

Throw fishbite in the search and out if there has ever been another problem. Sometimes a plugged line, usually junk LP. By the time you feel fishbite- the fuel is in full cavitation in the ip ripping of micro chunks of the head& rotor.

Fass. They are expensive- buy once cry once. They last ridiculously long- and have no issues.

Their water separator filter on it is the best there is, period. You already know what water + ip=

The fuel filter is way better and lasts way longer than the 1874 designed thing now.

If you need a fuel heater in Mt then it is a separate add on because most people don’t need them. Sell your used ffm.

Add the FTB fitting at the ip, and the gauge adapter there. The new pump can handle fire hose so to need to getvthe other fittings to drop it down to 3/8 in and out.
You will feel the difference in power. All this fuel flow will help the life of the better than a new stock one. Remember 8-14, most people find adjusting it 1 psi at a time, they find a sweet spot and run there. Each ip/ injector set/ programming will vary optimum pressure.

Not the Raptor?

Where do I get a Fass?

Under the bed close to the fuel tank where a pump should be. Pumps pump- they shouldn’t suck. There are several ones- I don’t remember the one for your pressure range. (In hummers they have a main tank and sometimes and aux tank at the rear. In those, mounting in the cavity just in front of the right rear tail light seems best place.)
Ive seen a few pickup mount outside the frame rail in front of the rear tire, obviously shielding from rocks off the tire is needed. Basically that cavity where the fuel filler hoses come in- but on the other side of the truck is more room.

No this is not a plug play install, just whats best.

I'd like to see pics of one mounted up. In a safe place.

I'm not a fan of anything hanging down

Then it sounds like Leroy’s Raptor is the easier install.

I installed a raptor in my truck. It is in place of the OEM pump. I wanted to keep everything as close to stock as I could so that if it failed I could go back to stock if needed. Had to make the output fitting though.
I ordered the Raptor BCD kit from Leroy for the east install reasons. Leroy said the FASS is good, but it is huge and creates installation issues with stuff hanging below the frame. I don’t have the time to do a custom installation. I have remodel projects to do on home in Montana with limited time to be up there.

How long has the FASS unit been out?

I'm surprised nobody makes a good installation kit.

I have no issues against the raptor- airdogg and fass are the two best units in the world.
I lean towards the fass for the filters and like the package unit, and their products have long lifespans. They are super common in the semi truck world.

I would suggest getting a spin on base and add their water separator somewhere. If you get the double base or two separate bases then their fuel filter as well. The filter is more expensive but lasts a ton longer. Should be similar in cost long term and the $ spent for the bases and initial cost is simply ip & injector insurance.

As to why no one has made a install kit- these things are stupid expensive. Imagine someone sold the pump/filters with two separate bases and hoses with fittings required for everything. They need to make money in all the R&D experiments, figuring all the mounting places, making brackets, making hoses, etc. then they need to add in an hour or so per unit sold for receiving, shelving, then shipping to the customer. Imagine a great system that is set up to perfection for the average gmt400- when you see it how fast do you order it after seeing price?
Leroy sells the fass pump alone for $450. Not the filters, seperate filter bases, brackets, hoses, etc. do you balk at $800? I dare say 80% of members here would never legit consider it. It does become hard to justify for many people that don’t onow they would keep the truck if the engine blows.
For people who plan to have the truck in their will/ family trust- they would consider making the investment, but still half will put it on the “some day” list.
Knowing the ffm water capabilities, and that I was directly involved in the water separators installed at my diesel supplier in my area- I haven’t panicked for local driving. But as the company I used to work for has changed hands since my hummer went down- I will not push my luck when it goes back together.

So Leroy pushes his sales through PayPal. I no longer have a PayPal account, but there is a one-time use function. It defaulted to my Fullerton address for shipping, but did not apply CA sales tax. Leroy called me back and we talked about solutions. He won't be back home until the 5th, so a shipment to Montana would not make it before my departure on the 9th. Since there was no sales tax, I left the order as is and it will go to Fullerton, then up to Montana when my wife returns. Can I count those as break in miles?
