Does it ever stop bleeding?

luckily not. To me a used vehicle is kinda a gamble and I am not lucky or talented enough to deal with professional gamblers. Got taken by a used tractor dealer once so far and I would rather take my chances with individuals from now on.

Shhheeetttt..I been took so many times, I got nothin' left to take. In fact the only "good" used trucks I have bought were from the Town Municipal Auction.

Turbine doc, your words on "feeding" make me worry about putting the old girl to the floor to hear the GM8 sing. :)

but to the OP, to make it fun, and put it in perspective, if funds will allow, save the equivelent to a new truck payment and see if you can find a diesel suburban to compliment the tahoe! :) heck, probably get some fluidamprs for the fleet too...

In the end, it all may be old wore out crap, but it is fun old crap that the new crap isnt built as well as, and so cheap you can have multiple piles of wore out crap to use while one pile is out of commission! :)

i think there around 6k. thats what the guy over at the page bought his for. im waiting for them to trickle down into the gov liquidation site so i can buy them cheap. but i think thats a few years away

It's cheaper sometime to just make the payment, sure is easier but I'm a cheap "F" and refuse to pay 800$ a year in property tax on a new truck.

No kidding. At least with my recent front end overhaul, I can smile knowing that nearly $1,000 of new or reman parts went into my truck. When you pay $800 of property tax it has about the same satisfaction of a flush.

Yes - the bleeding will stop.....I bled for quite a few years with 6.5s while socking money away to buy what I have now...07.5 DMAX and 06 Escalade. The one thing the 6.5 did have going for it (and it was already mentioned) was that it was factory installed in 1500 series rigs and Yukons.

If I could find a 6.5 in a cherry Yukon for the right price I would probably jump on it....sorry....started rambling...

Not true. With what you spent on those two vehicles, You could go through four 6.5s totally, including entire drivetrains.

And when you hit the 200.000 mile mark you will spend twice as much as what we spend on 6.5 repairs. Or you could sell them and start the whole cycle over again.

It all comes down to what you want to spend, and how much modern toys you want,IE nav. systems and the like.
But if you want functionality only and low ownership and repair costs you can't beat the 6.5 in that department.

If it does what you ask of it without the 700.00 a month payment,, THAT'S PRICELESS.

The day a set of dmax inj. can be had for 250.00 for a set is when I will get one. I'm guessing 20 years or so.

Although if I hit the lottery and money wasn't an issue I woud buy a newer truck, maybe something 3 or 4 years old. BUT I will never give up the 6.5, it has grown on me, and I love it.

For those who can or want a dmax that's cool. As a mechanic I just see the reality of what you get for your money.

I'm with all you fella's on this. Seems like all I've done is replace replace replace. Cheap to run though, no payments. Someone also said who makes a half ton diesel? No one. These trucks are worth it, you just have to stay on top of it. I worry too about the day it decides that enough is enough and here comes my connecting rod out the side door too lol. Whatever. Thanks to people that hang out here, I don't have to worry about not knowing what to look for!

Just back from the garage. Ball joint replacement time, all of 'em. '93 K3500. A real SOB. All rivited, smokewrench all the way.

I refuse to buy a new truck.

Talk to me in about 20 years... however.... But I still think I'd DIY.

DYI 'til I die.
