Hey all,

I got a DB2 injection pump via e-bay, and it showed up today in a tore up box. It spent almost a week in the arkansas terminal, not far from the origin, so i figured it got screwed up there. showed up with a gaping hole in the box, and the whole thing wrapped in plastic.

the only possible issue is on the end up the pump where the fuel comes in the end (where the fuel solenoid is on a DS4) it has a dent on the edge, not on the threads though. we wiggled the drive, no binding, feels fine.

how does the inlet fitting fit into the end? is it a tapered pipe, or does it need a flat smoot flange to seal?

also, I am debating on what feedback to leave. he used a small box, put newspaper down, put the pump in (with the end in the corner unprotected) and then packed paper around it. better than sears, but not as good as needed. The insurance label is black, and according to our post office, the labels are color coded, and black means under 200. I paid 250 for the damn thing, apparently he saved $2.05 cheaping out. I asked him multiple times to insure for more than the amount, I would be happy to pay the difference, etc.

any input appreciated, thanks!

EDIT:

as i started to un-wrap it further, the mounting flange is broke clean off, its damaged for sure.

if in fact the insurance was for less than 200 bucks (black label, may actually be fore more, but IDK yet) , and I paid 250, how do I handle that? will e-bay take care of me if he starts jacking around?

I wanted the guy to insure it for 500 or more, so if it got screwed up, I could grab the next available pump on e-bay without worrying about price as much, but apparently 2 McChickens were on the mind, so he saved a few bucks cheaping out.

I may try and find a core pump and get a pump shop to swap guts over if i can hang onto it.

I contacted the seller, and we will see what he wants to do.

Since he was the one who shipped it, is he responsible to take care of the problem with USPS insurance?

If he is resistant on all parts, do I file with USPS for a refund, or open a claim with ebay, or paypal?

What pump do you have ? I have maybe 7 pumps that I need to sell for cores .

Whaddaya want for a DB2 2831-4911? (of course let GM guy get dibs first)

USPS has done this exact same thing on a known good reman DB2 for me there a while back.. They will NEVER have that chance again.. Worthless...

I actually have one of them . Also a D2831-5088 . Same size as the 4911 . Most of mine are the 6.2 lower or J code engines . I'll post in the classifieds .

Had a similar issue with a pump. Wrapped in those weak bubble protectant for Amazon books, it was also wrapped in newspaper. The box looked like it had been dragged behind the delivery truck. OPS was smashed and the FSD Harness connector, male was trashed as well as the FSO solenoid. Anyway, good luck to you on this one. Feedback: Good communication, speedy transaction, working on correcting shipping damage "USE MORE WRAPPING"

"I do apologize for the delay in delivery and the damage to the item. According to the tracking # I provided you, the USPS accepted the package from me on 4/25/13. I contacted the USPS to ask them what the problem was, the customer service rep said that there was nothing indicating what happen that caused the delay. The package was insured so if you wish to proceed with an insurance claim the customer service rep instructed me to tell you that YOU MUST HAVE THE BOX ALONG WITH ALL OF THE CONTENTS OF THE PACKAGE. Once the USPS accepted the package from me on 4/25/13 they became responsible for all of its contents, so if there is a problem with the item you need to contact the USPS directly. There are photos documenting the condition of the item before shipping still on the purchased listing. "

^ this is his response.

I did get a form from the local post office, and it also says on the top where to file a claim online. is the online easier? the paper form looks complex as heck. Do you think that I can do it over the phone?

File a USPS claim and then turn ebay loose if the USPS doesn't work. DO NOT let it go past 30-90 days with ebay before doing a claim if needed! Regardless of USPS outcome make sure you don't run out of time on ebay. They have better buyer protection for poor shipping or other issues.

The fuel inlet sets preload on the transfer pump. Static vibration tests that bend/dent things change the preload...

so USPS first, then if I dont get all my money back, ask nicely, then turn e-bay loose?

unless his USPS office does things differently, ours has color coded insurance labels, and if the same, he only insured it up to 200 bucks, and it cost 250.

has anyone done an online claim, if so, was it easier than a paper one?

ok, doing an online claim.

luckily they allow you to save it without submitting, which is good because I dont have the transaction number, so I e-bay messaged him asking for the number.

I also asked him again (2nd time, no response from first message) how much he insured it for, explaining that our postmaster explained the color code system, and according to that it is insured for no more than 200 bucks.

hopefully i can get 200 out of USPS, and then ask nicely for the remaining 50 bucks.

Poor USPS, they wouldnt be in the financial fix they are in if they just wouldnt tear up packages. supposedly for shipping ease, all packages get shipped in big sacks, and are heaved into the back of the truck.
IP was at the bottom of the bag I bet. max weight on top, and max velocity. why cant they put carriages in the roof of the delivery truck, and run it like an old hay buck in a barn?

I ordered a 3 gauge A-pillar pod and USPS literally broke it in half. I'm told it's due to their automated sorting machines. Yours must have got stuck on the carousel for a week.

Once had a package arrive and the only thing that arrived was the shipping label.

If the seller is ignoring you it is time to get ebay involved.

you are spot on Big T, it literally spent almost a week in Little rock. I imagine that is where it got broke open, then set aside, then plastic wrapped, then sent on.

Warwagon, and others, do you think I should wait till tonight for a response on the needed number, or go ahead and file the claim during business hours to get the ball rolling?

do you think that I should wait a few days to file an e-bay claim? I officially bought it on 4-22-13, so I got a little time.

Once you got the hand washing email from the vendor, it was time to drop the hammer on him from three directions. Paypal, Ebay and USPS. Every day you wait to act is one more day you'll be waiting for a resolution.

just submitted the USPS claim. may need to mail in a printoff page from peninsular to show what a new one costs, as they wanted evidence of replacement cost, or so I think. the wording was vague.

so I wont get in trouble involving all three? would you recommend involving e-bay next, and then paypal?

No, you are simply trying to fix your issue of a destroyed part. You did not get what you paid for. You can stop the process at any time that you are made whole. Paypal does hold funds on disputed items and this is the time critical process.
