At 3:30 pm PDT Sunday, the old girl rattled back to life.

Finally got the second battery for her today.

Installed battery
Ran the lift pump and purged out about a gallon of diesel to be sure the fuel was clean and free of water . :agreed:

Removed the glow plugs and had Pat crank the beast for about 30 seconds to get fuel mist at the plug ports.

Installed plugs and went for a start.

Started within 2 seconds and died, reglowed and it started and stayed running after about 5 seconds of cranking.

Took maybe 30 seconds to finally clean the air out and settle down to a smooth idle.

Revved it a few times then shut down.

No coolant yet.

Text book perfect.

Good oil pressure
All gauges and warning lamps functioned correctly.

We are getting rain the next several days, so will get back at it ASAP.

The long long sojourn is finally over.

Need a pair of front tires before the road test, one has a nasty split to the steel.

The final test will be to see if the tranny works right after the long sleep.

Thanks guys.

Just waiting now for some decent weather to wrap it up.

We been getting slammed with W E T W E T WE T TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

Over 2 inches yesterday
Arrrrrrrrrgh

Needed a row boat to get to the barn almost, and its down a 10% grade from the house :WTF:

Gotta mix some 50/50 green juice and fillerup yet too.

Just got onto finishing it about a month late.

Ahhhh well, such is life.

The good thing is that it ran ok

Close to the finish line, good to hear. 2" of rain takes about a half a year here, I cant imagine trying to work on a truck in that much water outside anymore. Done it a few times out of pure need, if it can wait a few days I say tackle the house cleaning or something else first.

Today the Son In law came up and he got a bug in his butt and filled Dahooooley with green juice and fired it off.

We ran it about an hour, give or take and all seemed well.

The 4 year sojourn took its toll though, and the test drive soon revealed a failed/sticking front brake caliper.

We are going to drop a fresh pair of calipers on the front end and that should handle that.

Overall, the test drive was uneventful.

Oil pressure is a tad lower than I would like at 20 idle and 40 down the road.
The previous engine was a non squirt block with a squirt block oil pump and had oil pressure up the butt at a hot Idle of 40 and running at 60 and cold run at OMG I HOPE IT DOES NOT POP

Sounds wonderful, and runs nice.

Started up nice even at 30F and having sat for several days at 20F temps

Has 60G plugs in it, so cold weather starts may not see the plugs get quite as hot as the older plugs would, but good enough.

I think we may install a manual oil pressure gauge and see what it looks like.

The dash gauges have always been a tad weird, and the oil pressure will drop 10 psi if you switch the lights on. Go figure ?????

All in all, a good go.
