Dahoooooley lives yet again

Pretty much.

Gotta shop around for some brake calipers now.

That one brake was smoking sooo bad on the way back it was a bit unnerving.

Just glad we were only 2 miles out

Lights and Oil pressure are related by power supply or ground. My 1993 does the same, looses oil pressure when you turn the lights on. I figure it is the small ground from the cluster that gets overloaded by the "lamps" being turned on. I read somewhere where someone added an additional ground wire to the cluster.

Time does not help either me thinks

The cluster drops into the dash bucket and has contacts in the back that can get dirty too.

Wiring is possibly a tad small for the demand.

Ahhhh well

Likely install a direct gauge in it just to be safe.

When ya see 40 plus at idle like before, ya don't sweat anything, but when 40 is all it makes hot and idles at 20 maybe it makes me nervous

With nasty wet weather on the horizon, the Son in law and I got after Dahooooley one more time and replaced the front brake calipers and pads this morning.

Gawd, the calipers were stuck tighter than a bulls A$$ in fly time.

Took a 5 pounder with some gusto to get the calipers to back off enough to get them off.

The RH side was so tight after our quicky test drive Sunday that even a long bar on the lugs would not turn the wheel

Just 4 years in the elements was tooooooo much for them.

A fresh set of calipers and pads and all is well.

The trip the other day polished the rust off real good:D uh huh.

As soon as we can we will give the old girl a proper test drive.

The only salvation was the lack of SALT around here, so things came apart easily.

Just saw this thread. Good your on the road again. & salts sucks, glad we don't need it here too.

Glad you got it fixed. I've had the displeasure of working on vehicles from the salt belt before, and have always felt very blessed to live down south.

Glad to hear you got it going again, I am very much a lurker on these forums but I have following your progress.

Nothing beats a mechanical oil pressure gauge!

Cheers
Nobby

The gauge cluster in this truck has always been a tad hinky, and the P O had installed a manual temp gauge.

Voltage, grounds and such can effect the entire system.

I suspect this is the issue.

This engine block is an AMG 506 casting that was made in 2002, and has the oil squirters in the main line.

These engines were notorious for lower pressure.

The clearances in the bottom are a tad loose at .0025 on the rods and .003 on the mains

If need be we can swap the 15-40 oil for some 20-50 diesel grade and that will help the hot pressure.

Cold it runs 50 psi

Biggy though is to get a real gauge on the beast and see what it says.

Been following this as well. It took me about 4 years to repower mine. Now that I'm well enough, I'm welding in body panels and putting in new interior. Good luck and stay healthy.
