Can the 6.5 pull 12,000lbs?

What was he hauling it around with?

I dont know but I should have asked. He had this crawler for a pond project. It wasnt used for a business so he didnt have any large trucks but he said he hauled it a few times on that trailer. If he used a pickup that may explain why he said hes had 5 heart attacks already.
 
it all depends on traffic. if there are lunatic soccer moms that will never accept blame during a wreck, and otherwise drive like a idiot, I would lay off. if you get passed by 1 car every 10 minutes, go for it.

people have done far crazier things with a pickup, but are usually in more remote areas. We know a local farmer whos father had a new 6.2L 3/4 ton, and they had the gooseneck so stuffed with round bales, had it in 4 low, and the automatic wouldnt even pull it out of the soft dirt in the field. a little push with the loader tractor, and down the road he went.

so do what you feel comfortable with, traffic wise. I wouldnt be worried about the truck doing it, but doing it safely is another story.

I pulled over 20,000lbs with my little jimmy. It was on a 4 wheel wagon so there was no tongue weight. I pulled it down the road, after I pulled into the street and seen it was a lot heavier then I thought I couldnt really go back. By the time I could have went around the block to go back that would have been more miles then getting to where I was hauling it.

One of the craziest things I seen was a guy pulling a house down the road. He had a old busted up ford 3/4ton pickup and was pulling a full house down the street, wasnt a big house, maybe 2 bedrooms but it hogged the entire road. He did have his wife driving behind in a ford escort with the flashers on so it was all good.
 
A bumper would probably pull off with like 4000lbs :) I think bumper pull just generally means from that height/area, just a differentiation from 5th wheel or gooseneck. If you used a Pintel Hitch would be better off, seems like thats what most of the farm guys I grew up around have on their trailers. To pull their large equipment around.

Yep, doesnt take much to mess up a bumper with a trailer ball. Even with a pintle hitch the hitch itself is still weak.

I Know but Ive seen some stupid Sh!t, I did have a Truck with one of those huge 10k Drop bumpers on it, But still added a Resse Hitch
 
Absolutely!
I already sent one hitch and the frame extender to the scrap yard. I also had to untweek the bends in the rear frame. This is from unloading the rear of the trailer as we delivered items and this caused the tongue weight get too high on bad road.

Bumper pull is limited to 10,000 LBS with the trailer weight and that is ignoring the engine. (I recall 11,000 LBS for the 454 and a 5th was the largest weight rating I could find anywhere for this body style.) The weakest rated component like the 5000 LB ball or 7500 LBS hitch is your actual limit.

A 2005 Duramax is only rated to 12,000 LBS trailer and 22,000 GCWR. (12,000 LBS trailer and 23,500 GCWR 1 ton)

You need a bigger truck to do the job. I suggest you look at renting one and some places even sell you the rented truck should this venture be profitable for you.

Flip the truck, trailer, and dozer after something breaks towing it. Assuming no one gets hurt you are still out of business, out of a truck, trailer, and the dozer...

i can payload 20,000lb......... i gues im doing it wrong....lol
GN would be the easiest, min 7k tandem while puting ~4000lb on the pin,
most 20+5 14k weighs 4000lb on the trailer tires and about 1200 on the pin empty it can handle itjust need to get the weight forward enough. so your not overloadin the trailer axles and tires.... weight disturbution is the key..
 
The axle load is how they are getting everyone around me right now. Most people have gone to tandem wheel goosenecks so they can haul plenty of weight on trailer. But then they have there truck axle overloaded. So weight distribution is the key to it all.
 
I've pulled 15k dual and triple axle with my '93 dually using a gooseneck, i can't say it was pleasant in traffic but the truck handled it just fine in the 95F Atlanta heat with the A/C on max. I'm running a GM8, homebuilt turbomaster set at 12psi, single 180 'stat and straight pipe exhaust. Most iv'e pulled with a tag-along (bumper type hitch or class 4 frame type hitch) is 8k dual axle with a 1500 and that's really PUSHING it. lol

My dad has a 89 gmc 6 lug 3/4ton with a 350 700r4. We pulled about 10,000lb tractor on a pooly designed trailer. That was rough, the transmission sounded like a hydrostatic lawn mower when you got it bogged down.
 
Lets say I did buy it, would I be OK with my truck with a gooseneck? I have a hitch just would need a trailer.

see my album. I wouldn't do it every day, but on occasion and making sure you have your eyes open for hazards, you'll be fine. I'd not put that kind of weight on a bumper pull, though.

I always tow in OD - gets too hot in 3rd
 
I recently bought this trailer and for a test loaded up my tractor,est 10K?
Brakes have yet to be wired so it was a very short haul but it handled it fine.

My 98 K3500 CC DRW manual says I can only haul 8500# on a fifth wheel hitch. Is this weight the same for a gooseneck hitch? That seems like a low number. A three horse trailer with living quarters is rated at 12,000# max. Accoding to the owners manual I'd be overloaded.
 
yes, fifth wheel and gooseneck have the same tow ratings. yes, you would be overloaded according to the manual, but if you take it easy and plan your starts and stops, you will be fine.
 
Why such a low number for such a big truck. Its bigger than any CC DRW made today. 3 horses wiegh at least 1000# a piece. Horse chow and all of my crap I would guess another 500#. That leaves 5000# for the trailer. Even aluminum 3 three horse trailers come in at 6100# or so. Should I get smaller horses?
 
I know a guy with a F350 with a goosneck equipment trailer who pulls 20k or more. Ive also seen 1 ton trucks on the highway with tractors that you know they were well over 20k.
