Such a wonderful day
Went to change the pads on the truck. Wouldn't you know it ,bottom slider bolt broke trying to get it out. So I drilled it and tried using an easy out. No dice. Will not come out.. but easy out rips the hole open e bigger. So I tried using a tap, thinking I could get it to pull the remnants of the bolt out of the threads.. nope that didn't work.
So, looks like my last option is too healy coil it,.. before anybody says so. Yep I know it's a bad idea... But I'm out of options. I called AutoZone ,advance Auto ,RockAuto, our local Pick-A-Part salvage yard.. salvage yard doesn't have any of these trucks that are dually.. and auto parts stores including RockAuto cannot even get a spindle assembly/hub. Such a wonderful day in paradise.16498078306242135475511.jpg164980787151344912310.jpg

@Stoney you may be able to drill/ tap with a slightly larger metric bolt, or SAE depending on what's in there

pick-a-part in Elmira didn't have any dually wrecks? Did you try Wilbert's in bath? gotta be out there somewhere

Only other thing I can think of is ream out the hole, round off a nut with the right threads and weld it back in the hole. Easier said than done but pretty much last resort. Any drill/ tap would be better than a heli-coil. Or buy expensive cast iron welding rod and fill in the hole somewhat then re- drill & tap

@DieselAmateur pick a part has no duallys. At all. There hot commodity right now . Especially diesels.
Bath? No way there...this is only vehicle. And I need it running tomorrow no matter what. I'll cut the brake line and pinch it and leave caliper off if I have to. Not a option I'd like.
I don't own a welder and I'm not a welder so anything involving welding or torch's is out of the question. Truck can't be taken to someone who welds (obviously) and I couldn't afford to pay a welder anyhow..
Just the brakes of it ( pun intended)

Honestly I've never had a caliper sliders freeze up like that. Even the bottom one was hell to get out. After breaking the top one the bottom one scared the shit out of me was sure that one was gonna do the same.. what I don't get is , I got under the other side of the truck and those ones came loose pretty easy. Only thing I can think of is that caliper might have been getting hot as hell for what ever reason. Don't know if that's a possibility or not.

@Stoney check www.car-part.com.

I did a quick search for a spindle and found several in my area. just need to know if it's the left or right side. I don't know if the DRW and SRW front spindles are the same but knowing what different trucks and vans use the same part will help widen your search. maybe others can help with that.

It's same spindle for dual rear and single rear. I need the passenger side. I was told it has to be from a 95-2000. 3/4 or 1 ton. What kind of prices do they have on them? Part of the problem around here is most of our bone yards closed except for pick a part...
If there within my budget maybe I could send the money and have it shipped?
Don't know car part . Com only online place I know is Rock Auto... I kinda go by y'all's judgement as to what online places are reputable. But I'll look them up.

car part . com is a site that collaborates with thousands of salvage yards across the nation and show a listing of what parts you need. I saw some for 150 - 300 in price. if you enter your truck year, they should show a list of compatible vehicles using the same part. they also show the salvage yard's contact info so you can arrange shipping too :)

Hey @Stoney just a thought... measure the diameter of the slider bolt shoulder that slides into the caliper. I know it's larger than the threaded area. see if it matches to ether a metric or standard size bolt shoulder on the un-threaded area. the thought is to find a bolt that size and then drill and retap the hole to match. you can get a longer bolt so the shoulder length comes out the same length. most bolts have a shoulder length then about 1-1/2" worth of thread. you can cut off the thread length to match what you need, clean up the threads on the bolt and use that vs the special GM slider bolt. but plan to use a grade 8 bolt so it won't snap from the shear force of the caliper clamping when stepping on the brake pedal. there should be at least plenty of meat there to re-thread the hole to a larger size.

Another idea is instead of customizing a bolt. drill out the hole on the spindle. then use a bolt and a nut on the back side of the spindle with a steel pipe sleeve that will slide on the caliper slide.
