Bolt holes in starter

Starter bolts have a 'knurling' where they pass through the aluminum starter. Often a cylinder block will strip out. A garage fix here in the U.S. is to run a threading tap into the block. The closest size is a 7/16-14 tap-bolt. It will follow the stripped hole perfectly. Sometimes the starter housing needs to be drilled out for a on-the-spot repair. It's possible there are remanufactured starters with the aforementioned on the spot mods. -larger hole.

@denata look into your cost for the powermaster 9052 shipped to you.
It is an amazing difference. Makes the 6.5 start like a gasoline V6 how fast it cranks. If you have the under carriage protection on your hummer- this fits through the opening so can be replaced without taking out the protection.
I guess I've been away from the forums too long so will this one bolt up directly

absolutely! and it's much lighter in weight too. You still need to make sure to install the rear bracket though. When I installed mine and started the truck for the first time I was in wow factor mode! spins over faster and sounds like a cummins cranking over.

be sure to order from a reputable seller, don't get it from the jungle site aka amazon. I reached out to powermaster directly about warranty concerns, asking if they honored it when purchased from places like amazon. they were very quick to say no. they then told me to place my order from Summit racing. Reason I asked was that amazon only gives you a 30 day return window and your at the mercy of the manufacture.

this also holds the same for RA (rockauto) be careful what you buy from them too as many times it's just a fake chineesium copy.

It took a few years for them to get the positive cable post repositioned to a better spot. Other than that the way there isn’t a full nose cone is the only things I don’t like about it. It doesn’t have a lifetime warranty- but they outlast any other starter Ive seen.
It will make you think its a gasser cranking over its so fast.

I guess I'll just have to add that to my rebuild project. keep my old one as a spare

Thats what I am doing. My old GM starter was working very well. I had done a rebuild on it with new bearings, brushes and a grease job.
It now resides in the box that the PM starter came in and I will hang onto that because nothing is totally break down proof.
