Balancing beads

Do you happen to remember which beads you used? Thinking about putting some beads in mine when I pull the tire to clean the rim(my PYO'S corroded on the bead, and leak since I put new tires on).
I used beads from a company called Mohawk Rubber. That's all I can remember at the moment. My Alzheimers is kicking in a little early. LOL

I use steel bb's. Lol cheaper than the actual beads, and seem to work the same.

I just sold about 40# of lead shot to a Black Powder shooter last summer. Wished I had thought of this.

How many ounces of beads does a tire need?

I am out of my house right now. I will check when I get back. Generally a tire that big would require about 4 to 5 ozs.

When running an aluminum rim, we ran distilled water. It rusts steel wheels, but it practically free and works way better than any of the bead system. Aluminum and rubber is impervious to distilled water.

We tried ball bearings but it was noisey and after a lot of miles you could see wear on the inside of the rim and valve steam head- to be fair never a failure from it.

The only reason I don't run an oil (steel wheels) in mine is the runflat have grease packs attached to lube when in use for friction, and worse from my CTIS- I don't want conaminates coming back up to the dump valve.

You guys with aluminum rims should really try water- you'll be amazed....

I had tried some balancing powder marketed in little packages in some new tires on my old c10 shortbed stepside, the powder caked from moisture introduced by the tire shops compressor.

Made the mistake of using some green stuff that was billed to plug punctures "was led to believe it was a good idea to use it where thorn's could be an issue off road" and it ate the inside of my ALCOA's like it was candy............

Thumbs up for most external balancing devices that bolt up between the rim & hub....

I liked your post, Will. I read that and thought "that's a great idea, but we don't all live in a utopian world where it's always above freezing" - big grin on my face, too. That's good stuff!

Yeah, one big block of ice bouncing around in there might not be so good.

"Well Bob the mechanic: every morning it has this horrible vibration, and as I get up to speed on the hiway I here this muffled glass breaking sound, then by the time I get to work it's all gone and drives perfect the rest of the day until the next morning...."

Forgot about the ice for you all when things "go cold" in Vegas, you just move from the 21 table to the poker table.

Seriously the last 24 hours, this morning included I'm in a brain haze, not thinking through things clear. Hopefully I'm at least entertaining like Roy Rogers side kick Pat.
