Attempting to fire a 6.5 that has been sitting

One has got to wonder about covering the transistors with compound.
Why would there be a factory insulating plastic cap be on the transistors if the ability to shed heat is so important?.
I don't think the bean counters would spend another cent on a useless part just to make a PMD look pretty when you take it out of the box?
BTW i have always used just the factory heat pad.

I don't have a heat pad, though. None with the kit that I can find.

Good point, bison. I didn't know it was a plastic cap, but I just took it back apart and I see that you're right. I had made an assumption that it was one big stamped plate with the diamond shapes in it. I'll just be covering the metal with the compound, as it sits right now - the plastic covers aren't going to transfer heat.

Arctic Silver applied to the PMD and stuck on the heat sink. For future reference, one tube is sufficient, but isn't enough to do the pre-cover that is mentioned on the website where you cover the surface and wipe it off before applying the rest. In retrospect, I think this step is silly, anyhow. Just squeeze it on, smear it around evenly and nail it down.
 
Should go without saying that you would remove the pastic caps. The transistors make heat so why not use the paste on them to pull heat away, but what do I know?
 
Got me? why would they mount it inside the engine bay? lots of room for improvement over what they do sometimes.
 
A nice and warm version of this engine still doesn't allow it to fire. It was warm enough that the upper intake was warm, to touch. I'm planning to take the starter off my other truck to see if it will whip the engine over any faster. It just seems a little slow on RPMs at this point. We've tried multiple glow cycles, as well, but it doesn't act as though it wants to fire off just yet. Seems like it should try to fire, even a little, but no joy.

Service Engine light is on with the key on, incidentally. I think that was brought up at some point and I didn't have an answer at the time.
 
there was a thread similar to this where they squirted oil in the cylinders and it lubed up the dry cylinders which upped the compression.....
