ATT DE exhaust for sale- gave up, reversed all my GM-3 bits back on

luckily, the joy of multiple vehicles is plenty of time to work on one.

Take your time and learn the beast. once you see how GM designed it, it all makes sense.

crawling up a hill with a big ass camper with the a/c on is the last place I would want a restrictive turbo slowing me down. even more so with an automatic, if the ATT could keep you fast enough to be locked in 3rd, much less heat will be in the stack opposed to grinding it out in second gear with no TCC lockup.

if you are this concerned about mods, at least put a GM5 or GM8 with a turbo master on, a GM3 is pretty sucky. but like said above, Leroy has the intake adapter available. When I go ATT (all dependent on $) I will be running an intake adapter.

and a tip for rusty exhaust bolts, PB blaster, and drench it for at aleast a week before you go to work on it. plenty of hot and cold cycles (aka drive it) while the PB works is the main thing.

good luck!

Thanks, Guy. I think my current plan will to hold out a few months and work myself into Leroy's (or somebody's!) schedule. I appreciate the advice!

Looks like I'm getting the steak! (Does that sound wierd?)

Chris is going to try and get down here in a couple weeks if he can.

Let's do this!

Big Thanks to Big T who still has the passenger-side exhaust manifold available- we're getting that processed for shipment now. Stay tuned...

Are the studs "stuck" in the manifold? Usually once you get the nuts off or break all the studs the turbo will come free. The studs are screwed down in the turbo and pass through the manifold. So unless it is damaged or gets damaged I not sure the need. I do know the manifolds warp with age and the ones I had wouldn't seal to the heads let alone let the bolts go back in.

I do not recall if you can get an air chisel to reach and split the nuts off.

Some of the really stuck bolts on the turbo engine side I have reached with a long extension, some universal joints, and perhaps a crows foot.

Chris, that manifold is on its way via USPS slow boat. No gasket is used. No bolts as this was from a surplus set I had purchased. Good luck with the ATT install. You're in good hands with Leroy.

I'm embarrassed to say: My wife is absolutely freaking out with this Ebola break out. She just knows your going to bring it to Houston :nonod: She is a nurse and a germaphobe. Not a good combo for her, but good for her patient's. The fact that nurse in Dallas came down with Ebola does not help my wife's case at all!!
Seriously we may have to reschedule just so I can keep the piece and my sanity around here.
Lets see how this news plays out over next couple weeks. If it all calms down then we can proceed. If more people start getting Ebola I can say for sure wrenching won't happen soon.

Leroy, I sent the exhaust manifold via slow boat. I think it might have been routed through Nigeria. Just Saying.

Yeah, the studs are stuck between the turbo and manifold. Hopefully with the spare manifold if needed, we won't have to worry about drilling anything out! But we'll see. Thanks for this and the links, jrs.

Thank you much! I need to source a spare set of bolts for both sides of it... any tips?
