AE scan tool time/TDCO set, need help

Okay guy's I am soooo dyslexic tonight. The TDCO reads -.88 not -88.5. Sorry for the confusion. When I was reading the spreadsheet AE created there were a lot of decimal points. I just went back and reread.
What a confusion a simple ( . ) can make:D

If I am thinking correctly I need to turn the pump toward the driver side to get the timing in spec. Right?

Who's reflash do you have, I did some timing work this afternoon on mine, a lengthy discussion will follow I may not get to it tonight, 1st what is your timing in time set, if it is 3.5 avg actual with 0 desired, your timing is fine where it is, I assume you have some sort of tuning in your PCM.

What I found this afternoon with mine, a stock PCM no reflash, gives 8.5 timing out of time set, but my reflashed PCM gives me 10.8 desired/actual out of time set, don't ask a ton of questions here, save them for post that is coming, I don't think you are having issues, call me if you can't wait for the post

No to retard timing you would move IP to passenger side, but I don't think you need to do anything, I think you have some tuning in that PCM you may not be aware that you have. You won't be able to change timing seen in computer controlled timing, you can only make changes to TDCO or base timing, it's confusing but after next big post I make after my time under the hood I hope it becomes clearer to you

Cant wait for the update. ive been under my hood all day, going for a test ride now with some settings. Finally put in that F intake, took me a lot longer than hoped, OPS relay mod and OPS extension with a grease hose (found out that 12" is just the wrong length to use, 6" for no bend or 18" for good bend radius), and I messed with timing again of course.

Because your desired shows the same as measured/actual then the truck is operating the way its intended to, or someone intended it to. Someone else had 16* desired at idle which is some insaneness, but how you can get to a max of 25* advance I guess.

I don't see how one can get *16 at idle unless reading it with cold engine, and cold advance cutting in, something way out of whack there for *16 timing on a fully warmed up engine idle, let's table this for the other thread and keep this one for Rodd's specific timing issue.

I am the 3rd owner. I know the old guy I bought it from said it was stock but you never know. After reading the thread a few months back about the supposed upgraded chips in some 99's it looks like my mm3 allows for higher than normal numbers. I haven't verified it by seeing the #'s but my max that my AE shows is 80 mm3 I think. I check that tomorrow as well.

Have you ever contacted Heath with the VIN to see if that PCM has ever been through their shop, 80mm^3/1000 is not stock, nor is a *10 idle timing, unless you have found a PCM that confirms the existance of rumored 215Hp GM tune

I checked my AE scanner and the fuel rate maxed out at 79 mm3 and the actual IP timing maxed out at 25 and is at 10.5 at idle. I floored it and the actual IP timing went to 18.5 and the fuel rate went to 55.

I remember a couple of years ago when I first got my truck I turned the TDCO down to -1.94 and didn't tell my wife and she said that she asked what I did to the truck cause she said it was more responsive.

I really wish I knew someone around Massachusetts that could do this on OBD2.... I'd like to go -1.50 for cold start reasons.

I just check the desired and actual timing in timeset mode and one of them (I can't remember which one) dropped to 7.5 for a split second then it went back up to 10.5. When I went into TDCO the timing dropped to 3.5 for a split second then changed from -.88 to -1.06.

I talked to the guy at heath not Bill and he said they don't keep track of the vin #'s they have upgraded. He did say the 79 mm3 would not be one of theirs. Theirs are 90 mm3. I believe the stock was 65 mm3 so I may have a gm 215 hp chip.

email Bill direct [email protected] he may be camping still so may take a while, but send him some info maybe he can shed some light, odd that your scanner came out of time set so fast

The '99 PCM's were revised a little from the previous years, so that fuelrate is right for your year truck - the '99^ oem tune is the best of the lot

FYI: you really need to stop and write down exactly what occurs when you're testing, or your input becomes unreliable and untrustworthy - no reason for us to have to guess and choose in your responses - makes our diagnosis just as unreliable - try it....we'll like it...............

Hmm...then my 2000 GMC "may" have a slight tune ?
Matt,
You may get your wish soon. AE is on my sooner than later buy list.
Of course that doesn't mean I know how to use it ....):h

Ya know even on my 95 which as Heath v2 , I did see an increase in power but not a whole lot. But the Turbo master IMO made the most difference in SOP but without the Heath v2 I would be defueling probably anyway at 12 psi. But my 2000 with a TM and a boost fooler, Hmmm that could produce some nice results.
Thanks to Packratt I have a GM8 TM on loan to try.

GMCTD,
one quick question. I didn't see a specific reference in you(very well written) timing sticky about AE. Can AE command a relearn or do you need to do KOKO with AE ?
