A little about our Project '70 Chevelle

Street car. :smile5: I agree on the dominator not being as well suited. The car seems docile enough idling in gear. Fairly loose converter, no doubt. Sounds beautiful.

Ah, I hear the peepers in the woods too. Sounds like springtime there.

Yup, it's getting nice out again.

It was high 60's yesterday, out working in t-shirts again.

And yeah........"street car"......):h

At least during the week.

:D

Had a little electrical gremlin to sort out last night.....headlights were all screwed up. Come to find the socket for the driver side high beam was shot and grounding everything out.

She's up an running.

Just need to get 'er on the dyno and get it dialed in before taking it to the track.

Had a bunch of issues with the carb, had to send it back to CSU. After 3 different power valves, it still wasn't running right, so we sent it back in and had them completely redo the carb.

It's SOLID now.

Here's a quick stab from the in car cam.

Cant wait to see some track videos.

You and me both!

We need to get it up on the dyno and get it dialed in first, but she lives.

I've got a bunch of video from yesterday, I just need to take some time and get it together.

All the HD video takes a while.

We had a buddy driving my truck, I was in the back with the HD camera and we did a couple of rolls from 70 MPH with the Chevelle coming by and it just sounds WICKED!

Well, we got it to the dyno yesterday, and go figure, one friggin part can ruin your day.

The damn o-ring in the wastegate took a crap, so it was either full on or full off.

When the wategate was fully open (natually aspirated) the car was making ~544 HP and ~630 TQ.

When the wsategate was fully shut, it was pushing the boost way too high and we had to lift in less than 2 seconds. In that 2 seconds (actually 1.3 seconds) the car shot up to 644 HP and had hit 15 psi on pump gas and the A/F ratio was pushing up above 13.

One $0.20 part wasted a $400 dyno session.

The power's there, but that dyno session was a wash.

Okay,

So all the BS is worked out with the Chevelle.

Had to ditch the TH400 for a PTC Power Glide after the motor grenaded the sprag.

Added a 1/2 gal air tank and a Viair compressor to control the wastegate.

Haven't had it back on the dyno yet to tune it in, but here is the first test and tune pass from Friday night.

This is at 6 psi and it pulled a 6.80 on the 1/8th.

Good job Rich. That's a mid 10 second pass on the 1/4.

It got faster throughout the night.

That was THE first pass it made and it was running super rich with only 6 psi of boost.

Came up 5 psi on the next run, 5 on the run after that and 3 psi after that we started having traction issues.....track cooled off and the dew was starting to settle.

It was down at in the 6.20's before the track started going away.

Still need to dial in the boost controller and the ignition; all we did was mess with boost on these passes. When all is said and done, it should be 5.60's - 5.80's

The converter is WAY too tight. It was setup for when it was a nitrous motor, so that needs to come out and get loosened up. Couldn't even get the motor up on the 2 step at the line, so it bogged a bit as it launched.
