88GMCtruck's never ending 88 GMC build thread

how much flow do you gain by thinning the throttle shafts?
In stock trim they are about 670CFM. After shaving the shafts and installing a spacer for the injector pod, it is in the ballpark of 730-750.

Lookin' good David! Your Dad did a nice job on the valve covers...
He's a dang good painter for sure. I wouldn't have spent near the time on them with all the other crud i have to do right now.

On my way. Hoping to hear it run this weekend.

That... was... a... long... weekend. *thuds*

Short story: The motor is in.

Long story (photos): Spent all friday night installing the second head, valve covers, intake, plug wires, etc. Saturday was installing the manifolds, accessories, cleaning the engine bay and rebuilding the 350 wiring harness to work with the 454. Sunday, everything came together. Tonight I got it fired up after dealing with minor fuel and timing adjustments.

And, done.

I've got it running, set the base timing and that is about it. The 3-wire oxygen sensor heats up quickly and the truck goes close loop, thinks it's running lean since as the sensor is RIGHT next to the open manifold. Next step is to find a way to get it to my parents house to get the exhaust welded up.

Last weekend this

3" 409 Stainless True Dual exhaust with stainless Magnaflow XL mufflers. Took a day to get it fit together, but it's in. It's loud. Much louder than I expected. It sounds like a musclecar... definitely a big block rumble. It is quieter in the cab though. I think my neighbors might not like it much, particularly at 5AM.

I've also gotten the data logging up and running using winALDL and am working on getting it tuned. As of now it's running rich at idle and lean at WOT. It also idles WAY too high but that should be fixed soon.

And yes, that is a tail under my bumper.

Pretty much all the rest of us only get to see the pics and vids .. :( which are cool and all, but that's one unique truck and deserves to be 'seen' ..

Looking GOOD.

Damn I can't wait to see/hear/light it up in person. I've only seen/heard a video so far and it is freakin' awesome.
FWIW Matty beat everyone and he's driven it :p You'll get your turn though.

Yeah it's one thing to see/hear on the PC.

Alrighty, here is an idle video. Once I get more tuning done i'll have to get another video together.

Honestly, I thought the magnaflow mufflers would be much quieter... I was wrong. The set on my 02 are nice a mellow.

They might get switched out eventually.

Nice sound, and very nice truck.
Is the Impreza also yours, is it a WRX / STI.
i work at a Subaru dealer, they are fun to drive...

Not a ton of news surrounding the truck. Been mostly fine tuning things and working on the trailer project. I was having an odd intermittent idle issue, after a bunch of adjusting and checking, I ended up replacing the Idle Air Control Valve, and after the most recent datalog and chip it's really getting dialed in.

I FINALLY got airbag installed on the truck. I've had them (they were on here long ago and were on the 99 diesel as well) and just hadn't got around to building something that I could use with the truck. So i don't rip them up I made a removable "leg" so to speak that makes up the space between the axle due to the lift, and will allow them to be disconnected when i'm not towing the trailer.

Excuse the lack of paint, I haven't gotten around to spraying some on it yet.

I also finally got a new spare for the truck too, just a stock steel wheel and a worn out 315/75r16 bfg a/t
