6.5 with 6.2 heads

After I pull the pan I plan on dressing the engine with all the part's I've collected to see what I need.

Does any one know of a good Gale Banks turbo build, I searched but came up empty, this engine will be going into my suburban build.

It started life two months ago as a plain jane two wheel drive.

Thanks Chuck.

Leroy has the Gale Banks turbo parts available esp the manifold. Depending on what your goals are there are several other proven turbo's to choose from.

Once again thanks. so should start a build thread and take advantage of all your knowledge and experience and co I just keep posting here or should I start a new tread and in what forum.
I think you're okay with continuing on this thread since it's about the engine.

Great score BTW!

I have a question from the shop, if the serpentine fan pulley won't line-up does that mean it's not a reverse flow water pump.

Thanks

I dressed it up with all the parts that I have been saving, what do you think, what should I change.
I still need to install a few more parts before I can disassemble for sandblasting and paint for the rebuild.

Im not a fan of the cs130 alternator, I would bump up to the cs144.

Also gonna question the crossover tube. Opening up the exhaust is a huge difference for the 6.2/6.5 platform.

Take that quick disconnect fitting out of the thermostat housing now while its easy to reach and go with an old school barb fitting and screw clamp on the heater hose.

How old are the harmonic balancer and belt pulley? When the let go, so does your crankshaft about half the time.

The alternator Is just for mock up, it is the only one I have that will fit this bracket, will the cs144 fit and what output is it ?

What are your thoughts on opening up the exhaust ?

im sure that the harmonic balancer was on the engine so that would make it post 2000, is there a way to tell when they go bad ?

The pulley came with the rest of the pulleys, once again, how do I check them ?

Also is the bolt pattern different on the water pumps ?

Thanks.

Let me start with I am horrible at finding older posts, I'm lucky I can find a keyboard on a computer. I Wish I could attach the links for you here.

Some modification is required on going from cs130 to cs144. There is a thread on this. This is the least important item on the list. 105 amp vs 170 amp. Also a lot longer life. The 130 is known for heating problems.

Exhaust, talk to Leroy about the larger system- 3" cross and 4" back. Multiple post in exhaust area.

Harmonic balancer chuck it for new AC Delco every 100,000 miles. Doorman and other knock offs only seem to get 50,000 miles. ANY visible cracking in the rubber body or oring looking piece change it asap. Fluid damper is a 1 time forever fix, but pricey. The belt drive is also a vibration problem when they get dry. Crankshaft and main killers. Many known broken cranks and cracked main webs- I have never seen a cracked out bottom end or broken crank with good harmonic balancer set on it. If you can only upgrade 1 thing on the engine before it goes in , this is where I would spend my cash.

Sorry, I am no help with the water pump info.

There is a recent thread "Todays alternator 10-16-2014" about a bolt in Alt. I'd let Ferm chime in as to whether it will fit your application, as I dont know. For my 97 it is a bolt in and on my list to get when my present one dies. I like Wil,l have no idea how to link threads as well. I'm lucky to have an avatar that I didn't have to resize. I will change it when the truck no longer looks like like that.

Thanks

I need to get the alternator on to make sure that there is room for the turbo, and from what you say about it that's probably why it won't turn.

I will look for that thread and call Leroy thanks.

With all the parts that I have collected the DB2s that I have are DB2829 with the rpm ranging 41XX to 47XX, the DB2 that came with this engine is a DB2301 with an rpm of 51XX, what do I need to know about these.

Is there any way to run cruse control with duel thermostats

Just get a single tstat housing imo

I have 4 different tstat housings, only two will fit with this serpentine setup, the other tsat housing will not fit with the breather/ fill tube and it points the water line straight up.
I plan on using the high flow water pump with the duel tstat housing.

Hey got your voice mail. Ive been out of cell phone reach all weekend. I call you back tomorrow.

Was just about to call you now, checked VM but no # left. Call me or email when you get a chance.
