6.5 with 6.2 heads

Marine engine = rust if the cylinders weren't oiled before unknown storage time. It's likely minor, but, adds to the blowby.

Turns out this engine was brought home they installed all the marine parts and that's as far as they got.

Guessing Jan 4th ????
A picture of oil pan flange would be good.

Is this what you need ?

Actually, they're all "classed" as optimizer 6500's

The p400 is a casting designation.

The picture above is a "regular" optimizer 6500.

Will have all the GEP specified casting improvements (ie: better metallurgy, thicker webs, shot peened caps, etc), but not the p400 enhancements.

Theyre good solid blocks. I've been pounding on mine to the tune of over 300 HP and 500 lb/ft (crank) for a couple years now. Not so much as a whimper from my optimizer 6500.

Not as stout at the p400 castings, but light years better than any of the OEM GM castings and more than enough for any regularly driven/medium hauling truck.

If you hurt an Optimizer 6500, you're doing something wrong.....

Yeah thats an Optimizer. What did you pay for it? (might make us all sick)
Whats you plan for the IP is it DB2 or DS4? I would think DB2 with 24v.

Im going black tomorrow to talk price and with any luck to bring it home.

Can you give me an idea of what it's worth, both high and low, comes with everything but the two silver heat exchangers these Optimizer blocks are new to me.

any idea what the marine set up is worth and is there still a market for it and the turbo is just a housing, it's empty.

cant tell if it is db2 or db4, it's set up for 24 volt but comes with the 12 volt , I will tear it down this holiday weekend.

Military take outs go in the 1500-2000 range from resellers. At least, that seems to be the going rate for a runner.

The marine stuff is useless to you so I wouldn't give them any money for that. You may be able to sell it, you may not.

What you have is a bit of a "junk yard dog" with the mix of 6.5/6.2 parts. Not uncommon with the "resold" military blocks. They often ended up in various states of repair before sold off. It doesn't make it any less desirable in the 6.x world, but I'd negotiate based on that.

Its been messed with internally, its an unknown condition. That's what the seller should be considering when you make your offer. Its a gamble on both your parts, even if its slanted towards you coming out ahead.

I would be very happy to buy it for 1500 bucks if it were me, even if it was just the long block without the accessories. If they are asking less, grab it and have a chuckle to yourself after you drive away with it. Good deal.

Highly doubtful its a ds4. Marine use doesn't support the electronics that a ds4 would need. Probably a db2.

Db4 is a bit of a unique beast, but would be a great find on it.

Either the db2 or db4 is probably calibrated for marine use. Not the best choice on a street driven engine. Marine components are pretty much meant to idle or WOT. Very little consideration for transient throttle, which is what street driving is.

:)

New is $6-7K. So used with the oddball parts would be IMO a high of $2500. You get 1980's GM 6.2 longblocks for $1500 and the Non-GM cast blocks are worth more. It needs some minor work, but, it still has value as a runner. The Marine parts are fleabay stuff and someone will want it. If the 24v DB2 pump is coming off I am interested in it. If it's a marine pump there will be lots of interest.

I wouldn't blink twice on offering $2000-2500 for it.

IMO as is Min $2500, Max $5000.
Long block only $2500- $3500 But IMO if you start getting up to $3000 or more and you still need to rebuild it you'd be better off buying new. I sell Brand new for $5950 http://leroydiesel.com/products/amg-optimizer-long-block/

You might find one for less at a military auction??

EDIT: Was typing my reply as WW posted his. Thanks for the link WW :) One "like" for you coming up ;)

Picked it up this afternoon, got it home and tore it apart, still need pull the valve covers and drop the pan.

It came with a single plane manifold, I have two duel plane manifolds, what should I use ?

Are you sure that you want to know what I paid.

These are all the parts I have leftover.

Wow! Friggin sweet! No excuse, now you have to put in gapless rings, and all new bearings before she goes in.

Can you take a close up pic of the water pump set up? Maybe just on my phone, but it looks interesting.

Once again thanks. so should start a build thread and take advantage of all your knowledge and experience and co I just keep posting here or should I start a new tread and in what forum.
