6.5 turbo(gm4) on a 6.2

You mentioned "Lines from a DB4" pump ??? were you refering to the DS4 electronic ??

These lines will not fit on a DB series as the fittings at the pump end are different.

Loads of good ideas here on this thread.

Using the later 6.5 heads solves all the issues. Just use the 92-93 6.5 lines or the real late 6.2 lines (90-92) and your set.

Swapping parts around on these engines is pretty much an easy thing to do.

You certainly can use the GM 6.5 exhaust manifold, just drop the down pipe outside the frame and then swing it back under the truck and on out the back.

Seen many of these done this way.

Lot of choices.

I got the lines figured out and ran into a stupid SNAFU. I have 4 bolts that wont bugde on the manifolds. wrecked 2 heads my bad. and the other 2 one I can't budge at all and the second one is being a PITA(very rear DS). add that to the other surprise I hit yesterday and it went downhill.

well cut the heads off and it's still stuck on the 'studs'. my guess rusted on. tried prying with no luck. gonna try using a couple of threaded rod to push it off. I haven't found a set of new bolts. are they anything special grade wise?

I feel your pain. I had to take the head off my motor last weekend and it took me 4 hrs to drill 1 manifold bolt out. I have never seen bolts so hrad in my entire life. I destroyed over 20 drill bits altogether.

I took a shot at in tonight after work(read dark) tried heating up the manifold itself, the bolts and they're still stuck good and tight.I know they were hot enough, the still glowed after I took the torch away. it's starting to look like I might have to pull the heads to get a better shot at it.

well I got the right side off tonight. I had to hacksaw, yes hacksaw:mad2: one of them and managed to break the other one once it was good and hot. the remainder just unscrewed from the head. I tried to take the piece out of the bolt the was left in the manifold, it's still there.:rolleyes5: I think it's time for some new bolts:rof:

EDIT: anybody know what grade the bolts are?

They are metric so I thin 9.8 or something is usually automotive grade but I will tell you they are equal to grade 10 because I have never seen such hard bolts in my entire life.

even if the do I don't see much of a problem. the GP setup was wired with 12ga stove wire, along with the starter lead. I hate fixing wires.

I did find out what the proper bolts are worth....about $85 just for the passenger side.:eek::eek:

so far today it look like little progress has been made. the new intake is ready to go in, IP has been turn up(what a PITA) debating on moving the fuel filter(box version) beside the rad to ease up space. all the gauge fittings have be tapped and sealed in.

a little note on turning up the IP: it takes 2 people to do it. one to find/watch for the screw and the other to turn the engine over. I did it from the top but the governor makes it hard to access the screw.

it should be and easier day tomorrow I hope. new bolts for the manifold, new intake, new fuels line? and of course the turbo. not sure what I'm gonna do about the left side manifold, it'll be either the 6.2 stock one or the 6.5 version. gotta check clearances around the clutch setup.

well got almost every thing bolted on today. still stuck on the left side, any suggestions or thoughts?

the filter beside the rad is giving issues as far as mounting goes(PITA bracket) still may switch over the the 6.5 setup. gotta get some bolts for the drain plate, and run the oil feed line.:rolleyes5: but the turbo is in.:D

And now the big question, what to put in for a lift pump???????

some info for those who are thinking about this. the RH side manifold just clears the frame rail. put the bolts in before you start screwing things down. I did it the hard way, 2 tries:mad2:

The bolts are a special type that has a swaged and rolled thread. These are still available from Ma General (6.5 uses the same bolts)The special bolts are also very tough too. The swaged threads keeps them tight.Be sure to use neverseaze on the threads when you bolt them back on.Missy
