6.5 injection pump timing wrench?

I did Single Tstat one (GuyBB's) then went to do mine, and it was a LOT tougher to get the bottom one with the dual tstat system.

The wrench requres a good 1/2" offset.

Are you saying you can get the bottom one with a small ratcheting wrench? If so I'll try it instead of buying a specialty wrench.

Yep, dual stats too. I do however move the a/c compressor out of the way on 95+ is it? or when they sit on the drivers side, gives you tons more room,

I don't even have A/C! :) I'll have to pick one up. How long of one should I be looking for based by your experience?

Just loosen them enough to move the IP, Crankme... and never while the truck is running.

Check the timing - shut off - loosen & move - tighten - start up and check again.

Remember you gotta be above 170* during this, so if you play around too much, let it warm up again.

3 bolts. 1 up, center on the IP, and two down low on either side. I have a single stat, and took an old craftsman 15mm, torched it enough to bend to about a 70-75 degree angle. I tried a 45 degree angle first, but it wasn't enough to make it work. Once I had it bent, I used a very large set of channel locks to move the IP.

All you have to do is break them free pretty much, a few turns if that, Then find some sort of leverage against the loosened bolt heads and apply slight pressure to get the CH of movement, then tighten one down snug while holding the pressure with your big screwdriver/prybar or whatever you are using for leverage.

Thanks!

I'm just asking questions & trying to build up the courage & tools to tackle this...

Dam thing runs good smooth & quiet, ya think at 50yrs old I could leave well enough alone naaa that's just not me though lol

After loosening all 3 and turning the IP I always just tighten the top bolt and see where timing is. If I like it, I go tighten the bottom two, then run the timing relearn again. Its a PITA to tighten and retighten lower nuts, so if it takes you 3 or 4 iterations of moving the IP no reason to lose more skin on the knuckles.

Also the IP has resistance to turning, so you kind of have to hold it in position while tightening the top bolt.

All I use are a 15mm box wrench, fine tooth ratcheting wrench and a pry bar. What are these special tools you guys keep talking about, ):h

:iamwithstupid:
And I only use the box wrench. Socket with a universal joint on it for grins on the passenger bolt.

Use the intake manifold and the TPS bolt for a pry location to advance the pump.

Timing by ear. 45 MPH diesel clatter add throttle and the clatter lets up is about right.

Yo no comprendo compadre!

Ok I have the tools and will be ready to adjust it next weekend...

Right now offset = -0.18

I'm thinking of trying to target -1.85

What will the expected outcome be? I have read that this should net me some additional power, but I don't drag race the truck, so with the miles I run every week, 450ish think I will see a little better MPG?

Will it rattle more? It's very quiet right now, I have struggled with this decision & I'm still trying to decide if this is the right thing to do, can ya all help convince me?

Ahh... the one that adjusts timing on the fly for maximum efficiency?

Maximum efficiency - So that's what you call being stranded on the side of the road. ):h
I'll take maximum reliability thank you.
And BTW, DB2s do adjust their timing on the fly and they deliver the same MPG, all while getting you safely home. Not a bad combination all in all.

Crankme69

You won't regret doing it, should be a slight amount more power. What you will notice is better starting and a more responsive accel.
